GOP Still Looking For The Bottom - CBS News »
Posted By gamahuche 9 months, 4 weeks ago in Political NewsFour months after John McCain’s sweeping defeat, senior Republicans are coming to grips with the fact that the party is still - in stock market terms - looking for the bottom.
Republicans this week are processing two sobering new polls that found the party’s support reduced to a slim one-quarter of Americans. In the absence of a popular elected leader, its most visible figure is a polarizing radio host. Its strategic powerhouse is a still-divisive former House speaker forced from power 15 years ago.
And its hopes of demonstrating swift and visible change by pushing people of color to the fore have been dented by the stumbles of the party’s two most prominent non-white leaders, national Chairman Michael Steele and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
So perhaps it’s no surprise that many prominent Republicans are forecasting a long winter.
“You think you hit bottom, and it can always go lower,” said Republican pollster Whit Ayres, who said his party’s best hope is that President Barack Obama overreaches. “The Republicans just entered the wilderness - we’re going to wander around there for a little while before coming back stronger than ever.)

Coming to grips? - Maybe they should GET a grip..

Looking for the bottom? Shouldn't take a whole lot of looking..
I'd recommend a 3-month retreat for the Republican little-bigshots somewhere atop a nice high mountain in the Himalayas with some guidance from the Dalai Lama.
Then they could return as the enlightened Republican Party, cleansed of the darkness of the last 8 years.
The same-old-sh** is just not going to make it - nor is there a knight polishing his armour preparing to come and save them - just the sordid Limbaugh rubbing his disgusting greedy little hands together like a degenerate gollum.-

"Well there you go again..." The GOP lost the last election and control of the House and Senate because of our over population of Rinos. We lost our way. We became what we hated and feared, Liberals. Look at our candidate John McCain, darling of the media. Darling until they ran a liberal's liberal on the DNC side and then they dumped him like a bad penny. Bush wasn't much better. We will get back to basics. You will see people come forward like Paul Ryan from Wisconsin who will lead the GOP out of the darkness. He's proposing things that will certainly show people the GOP isn't out of ideas and we're not the same old party. In the last 6 weeks, I haven't heard so many Dems complaining about the job their team is doing. Gee, losing 50% of your pension seems to be affecting them too. Go figure. Increasing all of the taxes and fees is affecting them too, go figure again. Devaluing our currency to pay for pork projects like the arts and Acorn are cutting into them too, go figure. Who knew that Premier Obama wasn't the moderate he pretended to be. Oh, that would be anyone that actually read his books or studied his associates.

Enjoy the next 2 years. Because the GOP is already coming back and we're using your play book with one change. Instead of just protesting everything, we're offering alternatives. Something the DNC hasn't done in 75 years. We will retake the House and Senate. Hope Nancy likes flying commercial again.

Good recommendations, g. Bottom feeders do not look up for their next meal. Responsible conservatives have just about receded into oblivion. Perhaps the time has come to create a different party or at least rename the GOP according to what they have actually become-- the Anti-Proletariat Obstructionist Party.

You need to stop quoting Camille Paglia about elitists.
Despite her continual and embarrassing pandering to pop-culture queens like Madonna and Britney Spears in an attempt to make herself appear "hip" and in touch with the commoners, Paglia can't shake the fact that she herself is as arrogant and elitist as they come.
And she's not a liberal by any stretch of the imagination.

Rush isn't even a member of the national party. Or isn't Obama able to comprehend that. I don't even know if he's a member of the local GOP for that matter.
Reply
You guys keep talking about Rush. He's laughing and singing all the way to the bank. Every time you talk about him, more people turn to him. The more listeners to talk radio, the higher the ratings, the stronger his credibility. You will find many new leaders in the GOP far better at playing dirty. We're using your play books from the last 12 years. The swing back towards conservatism almost destroyed your party in the 90's. With the crackpot plans being paid for with deficit spending, people are wondering who will be paying this off. Grand kids, great grand kids? The DNC might very well be finished off by this next swing. Then again if this did happen, what would Rush have to talk about?

Then you know nothing of the party you oppose. The GOP was the first party to support equal rights for all people. Barry continues to talk about President Lincoln. I thought Barry was so smart? Lincoln was the first GOP president. To be a Democrat in the South, you almost always were a member of the KKK first. The first schools integrated were done under Ike's watch and involved Federal troops. Funny how when the DNC created welfare checks, they became the great equalizer. So wanting someone to be self sufficient is a bad thing but giving them hand outs and keeping them at the poverty level is a good thing. Everything equally bad for all, unless your a limo or Hollywood liberal. At least in the DNC way of thinking.

If we're the Obstructionist party, are you the Communist party?

Try not to delude yourselves liberals. All we need to is sit back and wait for U to screw up and get involved in scandal. Hell Obama was given the benefit of the doubt for how many explosive situations before he even got elected? Several? Oh yes and w/a Clinton in the cabinet and Harry Reid, and Murtha and the other dimwits it will only be a matter of time. U know it. U liberals can't go indefinitely w/o a good scandal. Ask Bill Clinton. Ask your favorite ex-governor Blagojevich. I'm sure that situation is just the beginning a long and interesting tale of scandal and screw ups.

Sounds like a good plan, Commodore. Sit back, do nothing to help the worst crisis to hit the USA since WWII, and hope that the policies that have been placed into effect fail. And you had the nerve to call some of us who opposed the Iraq invasion traitors?

WHAT? Sit back and wait for Libbies to get involved in a scandal?? Isn't that the republicans forte? It's just been one scandal after another with them for the last 8 years, and you are hoping that Liberals can "live up" to the lowness of republicans?? lol.. That's got to be a joke. -

Commodore - The current economic depression - oops, pardon me - recession was caused by the Republicans. Or have you forgotten that already. We are simply seeing the avalanche continue its slide downhill.
Reply
Of course, Obama may fail to revive the economy during his 1st term. But it will be because the slide caused by the Republicans has proven to be too massive to reverse quickly. Obama may fail, but he was never the CAUSE of the recession.
Do you see the distinction?? Or would you like me to explain more slowly and simply??

Yeah, since Newt and Rush have shown their proverbial asses, and Steele and Jindal have shown that they don't have enough sense to come out of the rain, the republicans are pretty much stuck on the bottom, and steadily sinking.

I think as a symbol, they should have giant Macys day parade sized balloon of the porcine swine closet homosexual Druggy Gaybaugh, and fly that over the repug conventions and meetings, like the cover art for Pink Floyd.
Reply
The repug cowards let that bag of flatlence AM psycho take over their political party, and they don't have the cajones or the brains or the moral standing to oppose the fat swine.
The repugs haven't hit bottom yet. There is no honor among thieves.

Perchance the two of them, dAnn and Druggy Gaybaugh, together, can present the racist front of the GOP, along with Caribu Barbie, these three comic book heros in their own minds, will lead the GOP down the road to the deepest sewer, and along with their lemming dil-do heads, hopefully stay in the sewer where they belong.

Some GOP'er must be hacking propeller..

The vote count on the page currently shows 24 votes while the "Who voted on this story" feature shows 35... [A bit later and the relevant figures are 29 and 40]

Well I knew this story would engender more heat than light but with a hard day ahead in the big city I figured that stirring things up here was a way of getting even. propeller as therapy, as it were.
Then I felt a bit guilty, as I sat on the train in a solo carriage with my dog on my lap.
And several thoughts came up - the first that the Reps are DESPERATELY in need of a leader..
Unfortunately desparation seldom brings good results - same in personal relationships too, of course.
Second that it would be a LOT better for the antion if they DID have a leader - especially a good one.
Then instead of having these insane threads where there's actually little that's new and fresh and enlightening that can emerge, if at least the Reps could find an intelligent spokesperson after the last 8 years of devastating ignorance there could be a reasonable dialogue and the country could move forward..
I fear that with the attitude that the hardcore reps have adopted the only potential movement possible is downward..
Scorched earth..
So my plea is - please find an outstanding modern, up-to-date thinker and make him or her your leader and you won't have to just whine and groan and moan!
Lets face it the Republican crew for the last Presidential challenge were probably the most flawed bunch of challengers that have ever been put forward.
Watching them fall one by one was mind-numbingly BORING.-

It is not a new leader that the GOP needs. They need new ideas. Their original ideas have been implemented progressively ever since the Reagan era (including during the Clinton administration) and have now been shown to be a total disaster for America.

the GOP got into trouble because instead of addressing the issues, they decided to tow the party line. every issue that the bush/cheney neocon junta came out with, then the rank-and-file republicand went along with it. no matter what. it was like clockwork.
Reply
of course, we destroyed ourselves. we were too busy blaming the liberal left, to correctly assess the situation.
democrats are doing the same, now. i look forward to 8 years from now when both the disaffected republicans and the disaffected democrats finally pull their heads out of their asses and cooperate.
this is already happening between the kucinich democrats and the paul republicans. -

funny that we use the word "team." because we don't see eachother on the same team, we see eachother on different teams.
Reply
as if bush/cheney/rice was really on our team
as if obama/biden/clinton is really on the left's team.
its not true. the government is against the people. those are the teams we need concern ourselves with.
the left/right paradigm is an illusion. we are victims in somebody else's football game, and we don't even know that we're playing.
