Newsweek Poll: Amid All The Gloom, Obama Gets High Marks While GOP Sits In The Doghouse. »
Posted By TimALoftis 11 months, 1 week ago in Political NewsDespite the tumbling economy, Barack Obama continues to enjoy a honeymoon with the American public in the face of the most trying crisis any newly inaugurated president has encountered since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The GOP, meanwhile, is viewed by a majority of Americans as the party of "no," without a plan of its own to fix the economy, and even rank-and-file Republicans are concerned about the party's direction, according to the first NEWSWEEK Poll taken since Obama assumed office.
"People give Obama credit for reaching out to Republicans, but they don't see Republicans reciprocating," says pollster Larry Hugick, whose firm conducted the survey. "A surprising number said bipartisanship is more important than getting things done."

Obama, after all, did NOT CREATE the mess --- and the vast preponderance of people RECOGNIZE that. At least he is TRYING to assemble an intelligent, responsible team to actually TACKLE the problems --- in contrast to the "make believe" machinations in which his erstwhile PREDECESSOR engaged for eight years. But whether these guys will or will not actually actually be able to deal with the whole mess successfully?? Well, "we" all had sure better HOPE that they can!

But wise up, people. The "object of the game" here is NOT merely to somehow "re-establish" "Business as Usual". For TECHNOLOGICAL reasons, THAT is NO LONGER TENABLE! And "we" all need to FACE UP TO THAT REALITY! "We" now need to develop and implement a WHOLE NEW TECHNOLOGY, that is going to SERIOUSLY IMPACT much that has long been "tried, true, and familiar".
Obama can't come out and just bluntly STATE that --- rather, that is something "WE" need to FIGURE OUT FOR "OUR"SELVES! But it IS the hard truth. -

Folks who would participate in ANY sort of economic/political discussion these days about the subject of “Economic Recovery" really need to be generally aware of a number of basic realities regarding ALTERNATIVE-ENERGY matters --- which in reality SURELY enter into any comprehensive (or even casual!) discussion of that subject. I submit that all the “political” blather notwithstanding, we will not ACTUALLY begin to see the end of this recession / depression unless and until A WHOLE NEW TECHNOLOGY begins to ACTUALLY emerge and TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY by ALL of us in general --- in a national-priority initiative comparable to THE SPACE PROGRAM OF THE 1960S --- and the now-shrinking industrial sector actually EMBRACES it and begins to re-tool all those plants that are now being shuttered and starts to ACTUALLY BUILD products that GENUINELY IMPLEMENT concepts outlined in the following:

“Our” ADDICTIVE DEPENDENCY ON OTHER PEOPLES’ OIL?? After all, we in this country now KNOW FOR SURE --- originally by means of Hubbert-inspired statistical analysis of patterns of past discoveries of the stuff, now CONFIRMED by many years of rather exact EXPLICIT MAPPING OUT of reserves (applying sonographic and other techniques), that we have at this point in fact USED UP (and indeed rather PROFLIGATELY!) about 70% of “our OWN” Providential endowment of raw oil --- and specifically the “easy” stuff! The remainder, which the “drill, baby, drill” crowd is now hot to go after, is at this point to be found only in low-capacity “stripper” wells, or under water, or somewhere north of the Arctic Circle, or WAY DEEP. (The largest known reserve in the “lower 48” lies FOUR MILES DOWN!) ALL SUCH OIL IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO “PRODUCE” --- which means that it would NOT be possible to shave very much (if anything) off the “price at the pump” merely by aggressively exploiting such declining resources.
Indeed, THAT is what has ACTUALLY given rise in the first place to the whole current (very “lucrative”) “model” of AGGRESSIVE EXPROPRIATION (or very expensive ATTEMPTS at doing so!) of the endowments of OTHERS elsewhere in the world --- and the subsequent transportation of the “booty” thousands of miles to be refined, distributed, and marketed (with, of course, endless opportunities for “profit” and “taxation” at every step along the way). All the while, of course, “we” PRETEND to each other and “our”selves BY ARTIFICIALLY EXCLUDING FROM EXPLICIT CONSIDERATION all the “ancillary” --- for example all those “military” --- costs, that ACTUALLY DO ADD IN to its OVERALL TRUE cost, that the end result is somehow “cheaper” than the alternatives would be! People may not WANT to “connect the dots”, but $10 BILLION A MONTH for the care and feeding of all those Sunni Militias in Iraq in order to “keep the lid on and the OIL flowing” REALLY IS A “HIDDEN” PART OF THE COST OF THAT OIL. And THAT, of course, does not even BEGIN to address all the IMPONDERABLE costs of about a million or so people BUTCHERED and millions more made REFUGEES by way of all the “collateral damage” wrought / unleashed by “us” in the course of THAT whole obscene (misad)“venture”!
Now of course the Oil Industry is NOT going to simply GO AWAY. Its products are VITALLY NEEDED as the CHEMICAL FEEDSTOCKS for a GREAT MANY things that “we” manufacture and use every day --- especially many different PLASTICS and other types of basic materials --- among them ASPHALT for our roadways, and polyvinyl-chloride used in water and gas pipes and electrical conduit and all that SIDING used in building. But “we” DESPERATELY need to QUIT BRAINLESSLY BURNING THE STUFF UP AS A MERE FUEL! So we are now STILL going to have to pursue the alternatives ANYWAY --- even AFTER now having FOOLISHLY BLOWN the economic advantages that we not so very long ago had enjoyed, which could have substantially EASED what will surely be a very DIFFICULT transition --- BRILLIANT, people!! -

For years we were told that Americans have the attention span of gnats; that we only believe sound-bites; that no lie was too dumb, dirty or unlikely not to fool the be-damned American public.

But in 2008, something ... went right.
The Rove machine kicked into into gear, flashed its lights and turned out, - cardboard product that fooled no one.
Obama's birth certificate,
Obama's muslim-ness,
the validity of the Iraq war,
who caused the crash of the markets,
what was wrong with America,
- the whole bill of goods stayed on Republican shelves.
And has continued to do so.
If you listen to neo-con rage, you will hear the deep, repeated complaint that the media betrayed them.
A monolithic liberal media kept the truth from getting out.
It is a silly lie when almost every American can shout
the truth in a blog or a twitter or a pod cast or split-second quote.
We swim in information in this decade.
Every lie they made up was heard; discussed, - and dismissed as a lie.
Americans are not blaming Obama for fires set before he came to office;
- nor believing calculated lies that he must fix them at once or it is his fault.
America seems to have grown up up.
Who knew? -
