The NY Post had a similar article back in February:
    THE FORECLOSURE FIVE
A NATIONAL CRISIS? HARDLY. THE REST OF US ARE PAYING FOR THE IRRESPONSIBILITY OF A FEW STATES
The beneficiaries of taxpayer charity will be highly concentrated in just five states - California, Nevada, Arizona, Florida and Michigan.

That is not because the subsidized homeowners are poor (Californians with $700,000 mortgages are not poor), but because they took on too much debt, often by refinancing in risky ways to "cash out" thousands more than the original loan. Nearly all subprime loans were for refinancing, not buying a home

    FTA:
metropolitan area of Los Angeles, where over 20 percent of families took out about 50 percent from their income to pay for housing-related costs

Well good grief! 50% of your income for housing related costs! That's insane!

    FTA
"The results indicated that foreclosures and cheap houses for sale are not national problems as previously believed. According to both researchers, California accounted for only ten percent of the nationwide share of housing units but its foreclosures and cheap houses for sale amounted to 34 percent in 2008."

If it wasn't a national problem then the government sure has made it ONE HUGH NATIONAL PROBLEM now!!!

Illegal immigration is not the cause of the Unemployment crisis, It's NAFTA. If you want to point fingers Mr. Stevens you are on the very late train and pointing in the wrong direction. NAFTA created a loop hole for corporations that enticed them to relocate outside the U.S. Add lopsided and unfair competition and China above others has capitalized on this and grown exponentially thanks to us. Funny, how that when the U.S was a industrious nation (remember made in the USA?),lead in inovation, and did not import any oil, no one complained about immigration at all... Our system needs updating to meet the diverse and extremely different times and to put a end to this bottomless pit of corruption. Time to stop talking and start demonstrating. Return the power to the people and stop the racism.

In making sense out of the mortgage mess the blame there does not lie with the people who bought more that they could afford, it is with the people who sold them on each of those mortgages and the Lenders/Banks and associates who did not regulate them accordingly. Loan Officers were a dime a dozen because of the thousands in commissions made on each deal and would sell their soul just to close a loan. They did anything and everything to "make it happen". Many didn't even have a license to practice real estate (no experience needed)and nothing was done to regulate their greed driven practices of lies and deception or their bosses, or their bosses, all the way up the line. Castles made of sand, a vicious circle of greed and the result is...
