Outlook: Obama on Responsibility - washingtonpost.com »

During his historic presidential campaign, Barack Obama assured the nation's voters that language is not just the stuff of speeches and empty rhetoric, that words matter. Six weeks into his presidency, the word that seems to matter most to Obama is 'responsibility.' The president has rarely offered a speech, introduced a new top adviser, or explained a policy proposal without invoking the words 'responsible' or 'responsibility'... It sounds great:

Who doesn't want a responsible president, especially at a time of financial crisis and war? But over time, there is a risk that the word -- and the president who deploys it -- may suffer from its overuse, especially if "responsibility" moves from reassuring to lecturing, from calming to hectoring, turning this young new president into the father-knows-best figure that kids tune out, the one who insists on giving the responsibility speech before handing over the car keys on a Friday night."

"Responsible" that is a word the GOP and corporate interests knows nothing about.

    Thanks for the post EE!

How silly the notion that responsibility will be "overused!" I'm not saying that some won't tire of hearing it, but to think that Obama will be "tuned out" because he preaches responsibility will take some doing after the years of irresponsibility we've all suffered through.

Exactly how can the president, who holds himself responsible, be accused of overusing the word responsibility, when we just came out of a dictatorship of a bunch of crooks and liars who took no responsibility for anything??? All they did was rob and pillage this country like a bunch of pirates! Amazing!

Responsibility doesn't just stay in the Presidents office, it needs to be taken to the board room, work place and Homes!!

According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 34% of Americans believe that they can't earn a living without government help. Among Democrat and Republican voters there were no surprises. More than half of the Democrats polled agreed that they couldn't earn a living without being empowered by the government. Republicans disagreed by a 3-1 margin.

Here's a very simple question for you to cogitate over: Would you rather live in a country where:

      (a) People can make a living and live their lives in a self-sufficient manner without "empowerment" by the government; or,

      (b) A person cannot make a living in this country without government support and self-sufficiency is virtually impossible.

The sad thing here is that for a good percentage of these people they are absolutely right. They were educated in government schools never realizing that these schools were designed to produce people who would amount to little more than good employees and good government subjects. Seig Heil goppy!

Omaba/ Fatcs... Although Goopy will use Bush for every mistake Obama makes the facts is the economy is in Obamas hands now. His power to keep his promiss to eliminate pork projects has nothing to do with Bush. Only he can prove himself to be a liar.

Fact- his handeling of the Brown visit was an insult to one of our best friends and his country. This was shown in the British newspapers. *Once again dont want to hear what Bush did Obama is the present president and the world is looking at him not Bush.

Obama has the chance to kill the pork! Lets see if he will use the snake Chicago politics and twist his way out of his word or be a man of his word. Its decission day Obama and present doesn|t cut it anymore.
