I am a member of the ELCA so I do understand the crap that's been going on for the last 20 years. They synod's goal has been same sex marriage. While we spend millions pushing this agenda for 3% of the population, our murder rates, high school dropouts and our entire inner city family units falls apart. That's about 30% of our city's population. Our bishop fakes like he cares. He'll do a food drive or make a press appearance at a violence protest but then you don't hear about it again because he's out selling the gay rights issues. Perhaps that's why I'm sick and tired of hearing from this very loud very small minority group. 3% worrying about who is sleeping with whom or 30% killing each other. I hope you see my point, at least in Milwaukee.

You want to marry a goat, dog, cat or the same sex human? I really don't care. I just don't expect a Christian church to officiate. I have a better solution, get government out of the marriage business all together. Marriage is an institution between a man & woman done in the presence of God. There is no reason why government is involved anyway. No recognized marriages. No licenses. When it ends, no long drawn out divorces. No tax breaks. No alimony. Nothing. Let the church run it and let government go back to doing whatever it was supposed originally do. Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.-

BB64, marriage began as a civil institution, not a religious one. In Greek times, a couple (straight or gay) would simply decide to be married. No ceremony, no registration. Romans were the first to register married couples (again straight or gay) with the state, mainly for the sake of determining the disposition of property.

No church will have to marry anyone they choose not to marry. Gays and lesbians cannot get the same benefits of marriage with a few contracts. Recall, in probate court, as an example, contracts and wills can be and frequently are challenged.

Furthermore, I fully dispute the assumption that gays and lesbians account for only 3% of the population. That is total garbage spewed by the right. No one wants or is asking to wed animals or children as neither can consent. We are seeking rights which should already be established that gays and lesbians should already have. No one is asking for special rights. Simply put BB, like others here have suggested, you just don't get it, and you do not care to get it.
