"We have the infrastructure, but do we as a people have the will to help those that don't have a home?"

Have you read some of the post from those on the right here? They spout on and on about how moral they are,how they are the compassionate ones, how the democrats are the evil Godless one's..LOL.But it is always the dems that promote programs to help people like this, not the "Moral Majority".
There is no excuse in this country to have children homeless. There is no excuse in this country to have almost three hundred thousand American vets homeless. There is no excuse to have any American living on the streets..period.
Want to help these people then first you have to fight the hypocrisy that is so prevalent in our country.
How many billions of dollars have we spent in Iraq,Africa,Asia and other country's to help people that could care less about US!! Charity starts at home...I would like to see legislation that prohibits one dollar being spent outside of our borders until we have fixed our problems, starting with homelessness and hunger first.-

It just happens that the right gives more to charity that helps the homeless than the left does.

Americans are pretty generous. Three-quarters of American families give to charity -- and those who do, give an average of $1,800. Of course that means one-quarter of us don't give at all. What distinguishes those who give from those who don't? It turns out there are many myths about that.
To test them, ABC's "20/20" went to Sioux Falls, S.D., and San Francisco. We asked the Salvation Army to set up buckets at their busiest locations in both cities. Which bucket would get more money? I'll get to that in a minute.
San Francisco and Sioux Falls are different in some important ways. Sioux Falls is small and rural, and more than half the people go to church every week.
San Francisco is a much bigger and richer city, and relatively few people attend church. It is also known as a very liberal place, and since liberals are said to "care more" about the poor, you might assume people in San Francisco would give a lot.
But the idea that liberals give more is a myth. Of the top 25 states where people give an above-average percentage of their income, all but one (Maryland) were red -- conservative -- states in the last presidential election.
"When you look at the data," says Syracuse University professor Arthur Brooks, "it turns out the conservatives give about 30 percent more. And incidentally, conservative-headed families make slightly less money."
Though I do agree that we should take care of our own first and foremost, the notion about conservatives being greedy and non caring is an old and flawed lie yoou guys always bring to any argument about this type of topic.

I do some volunteer work at our local homeless shelers (there are two in our county) and it never fails to bother me to see the kids at the shelter. It's awful to see their unsmiling faces as they shuffle about following a parent. I often wonder what goes on in their minds. There are those who do smile with some hope when they first get to the shelter because the shelter at least offers them a roof and a meal ... something that they didn't have before getting there. But those smiles disappear in time as the hopelessness settles in. Really sad. I often wonder why our government can't divert some of those billions of dollars in military aid that they give foreign countries to programs to help the homeless families with job training, child care while the parent works etc.

I give when I can but I don't give to organizations that give to overseas because the government does enough of that with my taxes, and if I put 10 bucks in somebodys hand where do they spend it?

My town has shelters that one can donate food, clothing and money and you can see the result.
Some of the other organizations have to suport their bloated paychecks and corporate non-profit headquarters and properties. -

In other words, I really hope that there are NOT that many homeless children as this report says there are. Some of you people really are PATHETIC. You give me negs because in the past, I have posted things that you don't like. So, sure, go ahead, give me NEGS for anything I post, good or bad. Stupid MORONS! -

4thChance: Those numbers are not overblown, in fact the numbers have always been under blown. All any one has to do is look around them has they drive to work, if they are lucky to have a job, to see that. Most people who happen to see homeless stigmatized the homeless as people that won't work, Alcoholic or drug addicts. That is not often so. If each individual in Propeller were to tell about how many individuals they have met that are homeless we would probably not have time to go over any other material.
