Michael Steele may as well hang it up! He's done nothing but pizz off that bunch since day one! NOW he says abortion should be individual choice, left up to the states, when abortion has been the whole platform for the cons since forever.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's freaking hilarious! All we have to do now is sit back and watch the show!

I think Steele's reflecting the views of a lot of Republicans. The cons get all the press because they are so outspoken and so extreme. The moderates just vote with the cons on certain issues because they disagree with the opposition. Most Democrats aren't leftists and most Republicans aren't rightwing, although a significant number of Republicans did jump ship during the Bush Administration because of his anti-science positions.

Huckabee is a likeable guy, but he's a Southern Baptist, and they hold very extreme rightwing views on a lot of issues. He is a fundamentalist who actually believes the creation myth is literally true. Steele is not. -

Although I am against abortion. It is not my decision to make for others.

I applaud Steeles guts and fortitude to stand up and say what he thinks. Knowing full well he is going to incur the wrath of the rabid holier than thous. Who think they know what is right for everyone else, but can't get their own stuff right.
I don't feel threatened by some woman's need to get an abortion, I may not like it. But then again I don't have to live with it. Why can't these people see that they are focusing on trying to make everyone conform to their standards.
When they should be trying to focus on attaining God's standards if they want to be right with Him. By the way God's standard is perfection. So we all miss it by a mile. LOL
In other words, don't try to remove the splinter from your neighbors eye until you remove the beam from yours.-

Don't think that yours and Abu's above are all that uncommon positions. Although to be fair, there would be more than a few people not around (including quite possibly my three adopted children) if abortion were universally available upon demand.

As I understand the situation, reversal of Roe vs. Wade would take abortion from the status of a guaranteed constitutional right to one where it depended on state law. From a strictly political standpoint, the pro-choice types would be very unhappy with that. Lots more people to have to deal with and convince of certain things. Of course, the same would be true for pro-life types ; but that was the stauts quo before Roe vs. Wade, and they were more used to it. And for certain things there's a very strong feeling in some quarters that giving states (or other political entiites) choices is not a good thing; that it leads to their "bidding" against each other.
All of this completely bypasses the attitude that maybe one should be willing to accept the consequences of things that one voluntarily does.
