Its an optimistic take - and I hope that, from here on in, that the web will maintain AT LEAST the freedom that it has now.
OTOH from my perspective - and I first arrived on the web in 1995, in Prague, as a TOTAL computer novice, with an internet start-up called Terminal Bar - as their "Esoteric Department".
Terminal did unfortunately live up to the other meaning of its name but the business survived in a taken-over form. I was mortified when, through an act of carelessness, I lost my terminal e-address.
The moral of this story - that its a microcosm of what an uneasy alliance there is between the information aspect of the web and the business aspect.
This CAN be a positive and creative "tension" and it can be the kiss of death. -

Well, the music was pretty bad. For all the "mixing" of amateurs, what you end up with is a mish-mash of low quality with little innovation. To imagine that something like this is a "phenomenon" indicates that at present the interent is NOT generating much of interest in the music world. This looks to me more like a "publicity campaign" than anything else.

Another problem with the internet is that much of the content is largely garbage and the good stuff is very hard to find amongst the chaff and/or is pay-for-use content.
Frankly I think a lot of the hype about the internet is overblown. If you do not have a good education, the internet will never educate you. It may end up more as a propaganda medium for group think than anything else.

Interesting. I noticed that those Dinosaurs named in the article forgot to mention that the Government is wanting to end Net Neutrality.

George Bush formed a committee to seine the net and identify those who had the personality to become terrorists. From what you wrote, from what you read, where you went, and from who you corresponded with good old George's committee of inquisition was to label you and the good lord help your A.. if you met the criteria of potential future terrorist.
That's why Cheney had KBR build those prison around the U S.
Since they are still empty, maybe he had second thoughts. But Net neutrality has more to it than just being able to enjoy and use. In the wrong hands without net neutrality the net could become a weapon to be used by despots.-

Low and hi tech at it's very best - with human's in the middle! NET NEUTRALITY is in everybody's interest. The individuals have found each other and collectively are sharing what they want - UNCENSORED! -
