This is the Army, Mrs. Jones! »
Posted By RedRiverJ 8 months, 1 week ago in NewsThe biting winds of change are blowing through ObamaNation. The same “volunteerism” that kept America running since the days of its founding, wiped out with the stroke of a pen, will no longer be volunteerism. It becomes forced labor and like the practice of another era, presses American citizens of all ages and creeds, unknowingly into military service.

HR 1388 is in the Obama stealth mode, quietly but certainly on it's way to becoming law, and yes American citizens it's all being done behind your backs. What is HR 1388?

This bill is sponsored by Carolyn McCarthy NY Democrat with 25 democrat co-sponsors all Democrats, including Charlie Rangel. Latest major actions; 3/11/2009 house committee/subcommittee actions. Status: Ordered to be reported (ammended) by the yeas and Nays 34-3.

The Government has the right to require individuals to give 3 years service under the guise of “volunteer” service. It talks about uniforms and “camps.” They revise the word “camps” and call it “campus.” There is language about Seniors and Community organizations.-

It does no such thing! This is a reauthorization of a bill originally passed back in 1990. It updates some wording and revises some eligibility provisions, but it is NOT setting up work camps or assembling a private Obama army.
This is fulfilling a campaign promise to re-vitalize and revamp the volunteer system. There is nothing 'sinister' about it.
"They revise the word “camps” and call it “campus.”"
Revise? Golly, I always thought programs on university or college grounds were appropriately referred to as 'campuses'.
Just more fear-mongering. Let's try to grow up (just a little?).

Some language in the Bill is particularly disturbing like:
Reply
“leverage Federal investments to increase State, local, business, and philanthropic resources to address national and local challenges;
encourage national service efforts to address pressing national challenges, such as improving education for low-income students, increasing energy conservation, and improving the health, well-being, and economic opportunities of the neediest individuals in the Nation;
expand and strengthen service-learning programs through year-round opportunities, including during the summer months, to improve the education of children and youth and to maximize the benefits of national and community service, in order to renew the ethic of civic responsibility and the spirit of community to children and youth throughout the United States;
increase service opportunities for our Nation's retiring professionals
encourage members of the Baby Boom generation to partake in service opportunities
Civilian Community Corps shall be called the "National Civilian Community Corps"
the Director determines appropriate "Uniforms"
Take note of the Miscellaneous Section (Title VI) of the Bill. Very Strange!!!
Sec. 601. Amtrak waste disposal. -Sec. 602. Exchange program with countries in transition from totalitarianism to Democracy.-

RedRiverJ, there is nothing in here about mandatory ANYTHING. It's an expansion of volunteering opportunity.

Uniforms? The NCCC has uniforms NOW, always has. It helps those in need of assistance identify the participants, kinda like Wal-Mart.

This is the number, so far toll free. Pass it on, we need to let them know how we feel.
You can contact any Senators’ D.C. offices by calling the toll-free switchboard at 1-866-340-9281 Calling after hours, at night, or on weekends can be the most efficient way of making those calls. No busy signals, no rude/ignorant interns, just in-and-out in two minutes.
When the voice mail message comes on, quickly hit the # key and you will go immediately to voice mail. Sometimes you’ll need to press 1 to get to the voice mail.
You’ll have 1:20 to get your message across.
If you are having trouble getting through the Capitol switchboard to express your opinion about the Bush-Kennedy shamnesty, there’s a special hotline number you might like to try.

I've done LOTS of volunteer work during my lifetime and this is NOT "volunteerism". It isn't even the military draft. It is much more sinister and evil appearing.
Reply
Here comes the '60's again....HELL NO I WON'T GO!!
I wonder who they expect to put on these "campuses"? Movie stars, millionares, politician's kids? NO....those people were always able to buy their way out of the draft, if they wanted to, when we had it. The hard-working, law-abiding middle class will be the target to turn into good little worker bees while dopey's, gangbanger's, criminals and non-US citizens will not be required due to being too disruptive or ineligible for some "reason".-

"By their usual activities, one would think they were no more than a "Boy Scout" organization: their meetings were often and regular, they learned inspiring songs, went camping, had field trips and activities and met for large rallies. The "Hitlerjugend", or "Hitler Youth" Party was far more than just a wholesome young people's activities agency: it was the para-military training bed for a generation of soldiers and "True Believers" for the Third Reich.
Reply
The Hitlerjugend, or Hitler Youth grew early out of existing German boys and girls associations. In 1926, on National Party Day, before Hitler had taken office as Chancellor and President, the formal Youth Party was founded with only about 300 members.
Before the War years were out, the number would grow to close to 9 million, due in large part to the compulsory membership requirement established in 1940.
This requirement mandated that all children (but particularly boys) belong to the HJ, giving the Third Reich complete control over the generation to come." -

And the mention of Indian tribes was interesting. I need to consult with a friend of mine who is much more involved with Indian affairs than I am. But, she once told me that on certain reservation lands (yes, some Indians still live on reservations), local and state police have no authority, actually, the Feds don't either....it is tribal law. Anyway, taking Indian children from their parents to live on "campuses" will not go over well....it's been done to them in the past to "acclimate" them to white culture. Gonna be a big blow-up there if that actually happens. Talk about "taking back the country"!!!

Now you guys know that I'm not the conspiracy type, but let's say I have the mindset of those that come into the 6/11 threads. What would they think if you removed the name Obama and then replaced it with Bush here.
Not only will he have his personal army he can say he has now completed the second amendment and start confiscating citizens guns.
Then you start thinking, what the heck are all those FEMA camps for?
Like I said I'm not one of those types but dang.-

Ironically enough, Bush (GHW, that is) was the original name associated with the bill when it first passed in 1990. I don't recall ANYONE hollering Bush 41 was creating his own private militia or forcing people into work camps, even from us folks on the left.

I don't think this is Constitutional as the Constitution calls for another citizen army called the militia. Btw, militia members are required to bring their own arms and ammo to the fight. According to the stuff I keep reading about guns and ammo being sold in record amounts I'd say the militia is arming up right now. lol

The Committee on Education and Labor has 30 Democrats and 19 Republicans. The vote was 34-3. Which means that it was pretty much voted out of committee NOT along party lines. Now after the Republicans that voted for it are taken to the woodshed, It will go back to a partyline vote.

Okay, here's you first clue as to the objectivity of this article:
Reply
From the author's bio: "Her work has appeared on Newsmax.com, Drudge Report, Foxnews.com, and Glenn Beck."
Here's the second:
"The biting winds of change are blowing through ObamaNation."
Anyhoo. The article insists people will be pressed into forced labor with dandy phrases like, "It becomes forced labor and like the practice of another era, presses American citizens of all ages and creeds, unknowingly into military service." and "The National Civilian Community Corps is year-round and will impose itself on children away at summer camp."
The author never sites the portion of the bill that outlines this. There is a reference to a redline version of a section having to do with the Civilian Community Corps. She makes a big deal out of changing the language from 'camps' to 'campuses', without ever telling the reader that the 'camps' language comes from the original bill passed during the George HW Bush administration.
For those of you on the more, shall we say, deliberately clueless side: the NCCS has been around for about 16 years. It's a program that provides participants with college money after they finish about 1700 hours of community service. Participants are located in 'camps' or 'campuses' because they go where the need is: fire fighting, disaster relief, environment, education, etc. -

Look at all the conservatives on here running. Proclaiming the cysts on their behinds, because the country asks them to do some service. Running around calling liberals cowards for condemning the needless war in Iraq, but when asked to serve their country we get the replies seen here. Yearning for GWB to be back in office, so they can support a surge of which when asked to serve and be a part of, they bray like mules and obstruct as they have become such masters at doing. You should all be ashamed. This is a dark era in American history. The day that we were asked to serve and some of us refused like cowards.

I have to say, the rabid right is sawing away on the limb they're a'settin' on. This is a pretty innocuous bill encouraging (not forcing) both the young and the elderly to get out there and volunteer for something, and it looks like it has strong bipartisan support. Don't we WANT people to be more involved in their communities and their country? Don't we WANT people to have a civil service option other than the military? Don't we WANT more young people to be able to go to college?
Reply
All this knee-jerk paranoid talk about Obama's private militia and forced labor camps will further marginalize these folks into the lunatic fringe.
Saw away, y'all. Saw away.
