Posted By pc25 8 months, 2 weeks ago in NewsASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization says he is "deeply disappointed and concerned" after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.

Another question is: Where is comrade goppy? With his constant railing about the morally vacant republicans trashing veterans care, you would think he would be speaking out about Obama doing the same thing.

Oh wait, he's a liberal. Things like morally vacant only apply to republicans. They never apply to socialists like Obama.-

If Obama is intent on screwing veterans, then he deserves a paddling. However, we won't hear the other side of the story in this article, because it's not written by a reporter--it's a press release from the American Legion. Just look for the telltale PR Newswire logo, folks.

Did you miss the Congressional hearing on the subject?
Last week, Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed to the House and Senate committees on veterans’ affairs that the idea to bill veterans’ private individual insurance was being considered by the administration but was not yet a formal proposal.
“It is a consideration. It is not in the budget, but it is a consideration, and I'll be sure that your concerns are delivered,” Shinseki told the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “And again, we’re talking -- in health care -- the two aspects of this are delivery of health care and the financing of it. This is about the financing. I want to assure you that there should be no concern about the delivery.”
“If this proposal reaches the Senate, I will strongly oppose it,” Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the ranking member on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, told CNSNews.com in a statement Monday. “The VA was created for the purpose of caring for those who have fought and sacrificed for our country, and the care for injuries sustained while serving is our responsibility.”
Meanwhile, committee member Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), told Shinseki during the Senate hearing last week, “Our vets already paid, and proposals that balance the VA budget on their backs are -- as far as I’m concerned -- dead on arrival.

"The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, "This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ' to care for him who shall have borne the battle' given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm's way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America's veterans!" -

Why does Obama want to abandon his and our governments duty to these veterans? This is sick! -

Plain and simple, it does not matter left or right bias. It is ridiculous to expect private insurance companies to pay for injuries sustained by our troops, in or out of a war zone.

What's next? Taking the Tricare from the spouses of our retired/deceased military men and women? The spouses of our servicemen and women are "in the service" of our country just as the service member themselves are. -

Its fairly safe to assume that when a behavior or product is taxed, there will be a reduction in that behavior or product. The higher the tax, the less of the product.

Another part of the Obama plan is to tax the employee for company paid health care premiums. Now why would anyone want to do that, and reduce the VA health care for the Vets, reducing helath care coverage for more Americans? Answer is to to create more of a demand and a need for a single government run health care systemby whittling down the current system. Look for more of the same to make private health care and company paid health more difficult to obtain, keep or support.-

Private health care and company paid health are already more difficult to obtain and we need national health care, whether you like it or not! Obama's visit to Walter Reed where he went ballistic at the conditions is in part responsible for whatever improvements have been made there. The President is balancing a very difficult set of circumstances and trying to give the vets access to the best possible care, but just as all Americans are suffering from the economic squeeze, vets, as American citizens, cannot have a completely free ride either, though ideally, the President and just about everyone else would like that.
Reply
It is untrue and unfair to say that the President hates vets when he is doing what he can to ensure their care without further burdening our severely strained economy. Flake off!!

You know, some service related illnesses/injuries aren't immediately apparent. Take Agent Orange and PTSD. If a veteran does have private coverage and some condition turned up later, could this be considered service related and therefore pre-existing and not covered? I, personally, don't feel the insurance company would be, or even should be, responsible in such cases. Seems to me this so-called "plan" of Obama's would cause insurance companies to be hesitant to insure a veteran.
Reply
Also, if a veteran is not insured privately, would he be responsible for a deductible and co-payment just like regular insurance? It should be fair and equitable and not discriminate against the insured. It just seems to me that those that are insured are being taken advantage of.
