Another excellent post EE!

Personally, I think counter charges should be brought against the DEA or any other federal agency that have pulled such stunts against legally owned and operated medical marijuana dispensaries. Millions of tax-payer dollars are being wasted each year and causing unnecessary pain to all parties except these Gestapo agents and their misguided pursuits. -

It's long past it was legal to do with as you damn well please.
The only hold-outs are the propagandized and the ones with something to gain.

Thanks for the post, EE!
The worst damage caused by marihuana has been its demonisation and interdiction.
That said there are some people who do better without it but legal sanctions are not a logical or sensible way to approach that issue.
Wasn't Timothy Leary busted and incarcerated for a joint once, in TX as I recall?
This use as a political weapon has been the most egregious abuse of frequently draconian sanctions.
In the Czech lands, post Velvet Revolution, you have to be extremely reckless or provocative to have any problems regarding moderate possession of marihuana. My partner and I have actually forgotten what the current state-of-play is..
Most people assume that former President Havel was not a TEAtotaller, partly based on his favourite foreign visitors [excluding the Dalai Lama]and the illegal concerts and gatherings that used to take place at his country cottage during his dissident days.-

The US used John Lennon's marijuana bust in England to deny him a green card:
Reply
Sen. Strom Thurmond proposes pulling Lennon's visa, claiming a pot bust in England made him an undesirable. Lennon is given until March 15, 1972, to leave the country, but he chooses to fight it with immigration attorney Leon Wildes, who sues John Mitchell and his cronies, charging conspiracy. In one of life's happier examples of kismet, Lennon is given his green card on his birthday, hours after his son Sean is born.

But, tanglang, the point is that grass does get you high--which is why so many get in a twist about it.
Reply
As for the "which plants" issue--doesn't it make sense to pursue case-by-case determinations? The evidence on marijuana is in, and has been for some time. It is not the evil empire. Far from it.-

I guess what I've never understood is why getting high is so very, very wrong.
Reply
People go into churches to get "high" on the euphoria they feel. Should we outlaw going to church?
People sit in front of the TV to get "high" on being drawn into a good movie, and forget the outside world for a bit. Should we outlaw good movies?
People get "high" from exercising...it's even called, "a runner's high". Should we outlaw running?
I would very much appreciate it if someone like tanglang would explain, without sarcasm and rudeness, just WHY "getting high" occasionally is such a horrible thing unless it's a method approved by then...and without bringing up the potential abuse, because if we're going to outlaw ANYTHING that can be abused, then it's going to be a world without religion, or prescription drugs, or the Internet, to name a few.

I agree with you completely!!!! I'm sure 90% of most people under the age of 60 have tried or are using marijuana at this time. If it was up to the citizens of US it would have been legalized a long time ago instead the government seems to be holding us back. WHY?

"in addtion to that fact. Anyone whom thinks it's okay to legalize marijuana is someone whom thinks it's okay to allow the terrorists to take over and start marketing marijuana in the USA beacause it's the taliban and al-quida etc whom grow and package that stuff."

Alcohol kills tens of thousands in this country each year, maims thousands more..Alcohol related illnesses crowd our hospitals.Alcohol destroys thousands of family's each year, not to mention the lives of those abuse it.It is legal !!! Why?..can we all say hypocrisy !
Reply
Pot is not a gate way drug,it is reasonably harmless, and has medical benefits (probably more than we know) and yet we jail people, ridicule people, marginalize the benefits and jail those that sell it to people (legal under some state laws)for medical reasons.Hypocrites..i'd say so.
The argument over pot has went on for decades, isn't it time to say enough is enough and move on and try to solve real problems?-

Legalize pot already. We all love it. Just don't get too greedy about high taxes and raising revenue. Low tax OK, High tax will just drive it back into the black market. Ironically kind of Reganesque, lower taxes on pot would yield more government revenue than higher taxes on pot.

Just wanted to say marijuana is used for medical purposes. I work in the medical field. I helps with the nausea, pain, and increases appetite. It is already being prescribed in the form of a pill in some states. It makes cancer patients comfortable in the last stages. So like others have said before making inconsiderate and stupid comments know what you are talking about. Fiftynine I am so sorry you had idiots taking care of your father who were asses for not making him comfortable. I work in the pain management field and see patients in pain all the time. The doctors I work for would have made his transition as painless as possible. They could have implanted a morphine pump.

My dad was given morphine after cancer was discovered until he died. Was it helpful? I don't know but I do know that he lost his will to live because he did not want to be a burden to the family.
Reply
I wondered how long it would take to put the drug in a pill form since it showed so much promise as a pain reliever for certain types of ailments. -

Since the doctor and the insurance industry charge too much for most Americans. It could ease a lot of running to the Doctor for everything. We The People need a Break and what's wrong with a financial break for the ecomony as well as having a little less doctor bill to always pay for? There will always be a need for a Doctor. The Government needs to give the people a break and That could help. Let's face it Insurance never covers what it leads you to think it will. A lot of the main reasons for not legalizing it belong to the big corporations that have paid the politicians through the decades to keep it illegal. If AIG can have their bonuses off the taxpayer then Let the People have something to keep the outrages down and make a start with building the ecomony up. The one thing I use to enjoy when I use to smoke Pot was cleaning my house. I miss those days.
