Jerusalem Rabbi Insists the Pope Must Hide His Cross »
Posted By FunnyBoyz 8 months ago in ReligionPope Benedict XVI hopes his planned visit to Jerusalem's Western Wall next month will be taken as a gesture of reconciliation in the long-troubled relationship between Judaism and the Catholic Church. But at least one influential rabbi will take offense unless the Pontiff removes or conceals the golden cross he wears on a chain around his neck, "out of respect" for the Jews.

For many Catholics he represents the figurehead of the Church. Whether or not he represents the Catholic Faith as a whole is up for dogmatic and theological debate.

I don't really understand the request to remove his cross. There are plenty of Christians who pray at the wall with full regalia, including large crosses. Lots of blatantly orthodox Christians with big, fancy crosses.
There's nothing disrespectful about Christians wearing a cross in a Jewish holy place. Lest Jews forget -- Christ was a Jew, and the early Christians were Judeans and Jewish. It was over the identity of Christ as Davidic Messiah that Jews and the soon-to-be-Christians disagreed.

Ah, the hypocrisy of some religionists..."I demand you respect -my- beliefs, but I'm not even going to pretend to respect yours."

At least now I know it crosses party lines, so to speak...I thought it was just rabid Christians who behaved that way. 8P -

The Pope, like him or not, is the representative of Christ on Earth (according to Catholic dogma). I agree with GehlLady, whether he wears a cross or a zebra around his neck, he is still the Pope. He is still a representative of Christ (again with the dogma). I understand that the Rabbi wants the Pope to respect the Jews, but I am not sure I understand how removing his cross demonstrates the respect the Rabbi seeks.

Jews will even demand pope to give up Christianity because they know the Christians are a brainwashed enough to accept the Jews a the chosen people of God.

If one goes into a Mosque or a Synagogue, one covers their head out of respect. So Going into the Jewish part of Jerusalem, one should show equal respect. If the Jewish people, represented by this Rabbi, ask the Pope to not wear his cross,he should comply,or at least hide it.

The main point for me though,is for the three great monotheistic religions,to take a lead and show people of all faiths and none, can got on.Religion has been so very divisive in the past, the least today's leaders can do,is to show people all belong to "The brotherhood of man",regardless of their religious customs.
The biggest sacrifice won't be the Pontiff not wearing or hiding his cross, but the Jews forgiven him,for reinstating a holocaust denying bishop.-

Truly those who believe and those who are Jews, and the Christian, and Sabian—who believe in God and the last day and do righteous deeds—shall have their reward with their lord; and no fear they have, neither shall they grieve (2:62) -

Israel defines itself as a "Jewish state" of, for, by Jews only. They are anti-Christian, anti-Islam. The so-called "holy land," once accessible to all three religions has now become almost totally Jewish. It is illegal to try to convert a Jew to another religion (jail term) and it is even illegal to give a Jew a "gift" no matter how innocent the gesture--it might be an attempt to convert them. It is illegal for a Jew to marry a non-Jew. They are so anti-Christian that they have changed the plus sign in math (+) into an inverted T so that their children will not be tempted to become Christian. And Jewish children are taught to spit at the cross. If I were Pope, I'd stay home.

No. The vast majority are like everyone else in the world. Pretty normal people.

Not true. Although citizenship and marriage issues do come up if one party doesn't convert to Judaism. But that's a cultural thing and fairly common.

Chris never preached Judaism nor Christianity. What did he preach? He preached Islam the religion of all the prophets, that is total submission to the will of God. -
