Yes, but it is (for now) COAL --- which we have IN ABUNDANT SUPPLY of OUR OWN, or HYDRO-ELECTRIC, or NUCLEAR, or WIND power --- NOT IMPORTED OIL, much of it EXPROPRIATED (directly or indirectly)FROM OTHERS ELSEWHERE and then (at some risk) transported all the way over here --- with emdless opportunity for "profit" and "taxation" at every step along the way! And it CAN be cleaned up --- whereas it is NOT POSSIBLE to ACTUALLY, COMPLETELY clean up OIL for use as a mere fuel!

THIS is the WAY OUT of the ECONOMIC MESS!
Folks who would participate in ANY sort of economic / political discussion these days about the subject of “Economic Recovery" really need to be generally aware of a number of basic realities regarding ALTERNATIVE ENERGY matters --- which SURELY enter into any comprehensive (or even casual!) discussion of that subject. I submit that all the “political” and “economic” blather notwithstanding, we will not ACTUALLY begin to see the end of this recession / depression unless and until A WHOLE NEW TECHNOLOGY begins to ACTUALLY emerge and TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY by ALL of us in general --- in a national-priority initiative comparable to THE SPACE PROGRAM OF THE 1960S --- and the now-shrinking industrial sector actually EMBRACES it and begins to re-tool all those plants that are now being shuttered and starts to ACTUALLY BUILD products that GENUINELY IMPLEMENT the new automotive technology.
People VERY MUCH NEED TO LEARN THAT WHAT THIS TECHNOLOGY OFFERS IS NOTHING LESS THAN THE PROSPECT OF FLAT OUT ELIMINATING UP TO FULLY SEVEN-EIGHTHS OF ALL THE OIL IMPORTED AND REFINED INTO GASOLINE TO BRAINLESSLY BURN AS A MERE FUEL TO POWER OUR AUTOMOBILES! -

Most electricity in the US is produced in the US using American resources. Nat gas, wind, solar, and hydroelectric can all be abundant producers that are reasonably clean. Coal is also abundant. There is no such thing as clean coal. Electric cars that are plugged in to the grid can also be used to supply power to the grid during power emergencies. My uncle lives in Washington State so most of his electricity is probably hydroelectric.

Endo, I've been wondering. What is your plan for energy independence? Do you have one? How about the environment? What do you think your grandchildren and great grandchildren should do after you are through raping the planet and spewing your pollutants for your whole life? Do you have any plan at all? Everybody knows that Electricity is created with fuel and I, for one, am not ignoring that. Massive amounts of electricity can be saved by heating and cooling homes and buildings using geothermal sources. This can be done now for little cost. Of course, if it costs anything at all you'll be against it.
