Both of the proposals to repeal Prop 8 are interesting and have merit. One would outright overturn Proposition 8, while the other would remove the government from the marriage business altogether. As long as justices of the peace would have the power to continue wedding couples, then so be it.

The government should not be involved in a religious institution such as marriage. Let the churches decide. If they decide marriage will be redfined, oh well. For sure gay couples should not get benefits designed to help couples having children, the underlying reason for married couples' tax and job benefits.

You do not have to be married to receive tax and job benefits if you have children.

why should gay couples pay taxes if they cannot receive same benefits as married couples. Same protections etc..Heterosexual couples have special rights just because they are heterosexual.
Marriage is not a religious institution anyhow, any straight couple can get married without ever having stepped foot in a church or any other religious institution. You receive your license and benefits/protections from the government, what do you receive from a church??? besides blessings.......
I will always agree that any church can deny anyone a marriage ceremony, I think that should be their choice always.
But I do not, and will never agree that our government should be able to deny equal rights to anyone, this includes ALL the rights, protections and a marriage license that others receive.
