(San Francisco, California) A group seeking to repeal Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage in California, is expected to begin collecting signatures this week to have the measure overturned.

    Both of the proposals to repeal Prop 8 are interesting and have merit. One would outright overturn Proposition 8, while the other would remove the government from the marriage business altogether. As long as justices of the peace would have the power to continue wedding couples, then so be it.

      The government should not be involved in a religious institution such as marriage. Let the churches decide. If they decide marriage will be redfined, oh well. For sure gay couples should not get benefits designed to help couples having children, the underlying reason for married couples' tax and job benefits.
