    http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:HR013...

Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act or the GIVE Act - Amends the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (NSCA) and the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 (DVSA) to revise the programs under such Acts and reauthorize appropriations for such programs through FY2014.

Revises under NSCA: (1) the School-Based and Community-Based Service-Learning programs and Higher Education Innovative Programs for Community Service (Learn and Serve programs); (2) National Service Trust programs (AmeriCorps); (3) the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC); and (4) the Investment for Quality and Innovation program.

Includes among eligible AmeriCorps programs: (1) an Education Corps to address unmet educational needs; (2) a Healthy Futures Corps to address unmet health needs; (3) a Clean Energy Corps to address unmet environmental needs; and (4) a Veterans Corps to address the unmet needs of veterans and their families.

    "service-learning"
Sounds like the political and legal basis to establish a net work of re-education camps.

Brownshirts! Oh my! I don't think so......sounds like the losers want build castles in the sky. Where is the part of the bill that gives the new "Brown Shirts" there weapons?

    Then there's reality.....

Many of the early members were from the Freikorps (Freecorps, illegal right-wing military units formed following the First World War to combat the communist uprisings and protect the German borders), in particular from Brigade Ehrhardt but also from other units, however there are some disagreement on whether the SA should be regarded as a direct descendant of the Freikorps or not. There is no doubt however, that many of the traits from the less disciplined Freikorps units could be found in the SA-men engaging the communists in street battles.

The Rollkommando was reformed into the Zeitfreiwilligen Feb 1920. The men of this unit wore the field grey uniforms of the Reichswehr, armed with weapons provided by Hauptmann Ernst Röhm (who would continue to play an important role in the development) and many of them seems to have served in a Reichswehr mortar company. Following the failure of the Kapp putsch Mar 1920 the use of field grey were discontinued and the unit was redesignated Ordnertruppe.

I really wish I could find some analysis of this bill that wasn't written either by hysterics or syncophants.

I have long advocated the idea that there should be a couple of years of mandatory service -- either directly out of high school or college.

Could be military, habitat, VISTA..like that.

I don't think we need to make up new organizations for it-- that does seem a little disturbing and the names being used sound a bit like newspeak.

On the other hand, if it's legit service and not indoctrination, and it would help with college loans or tuition -- I could be all over that.

But why is this being done so quietly?

The mistrust of government has never been larger than today, at least in my lifetime. At every turn, they seem to want new powers that can expand their control over us.

I served two years in the Peace Corps in Africa from 1974-76. It was tough, but great. I benefited personally from it and it set me on a career path doing international work. I still have contact with people I worked with, so I know some benefited from my work as well. I recommend voluntary service for both personal growth and betterment of society. Peace Corps was, however, voluntary, (and no uniforms or political indoctrination was required. In fact, the whole experience was de-policitized, involvement in both US and host-country politics was discouraged.

I'm amazed of the support here for mandatory service and even mandatory military service.

relax everyone. pc25 put this crap up yesterday. it didn't fly then. it doesn't fly now.

this bill is NOT about mandatory service for anything, just about expanding existing programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps. it has nothing to do with any kind of military training or giving any particluar group any kind of police powers.

in fact, when it comes to anything being mandatory, the only thing this bill has in that department will be a govt commission that will be merely looking at the idea of some kind of mandatory service program for American youths similar to what they have in many european countries, where 19 and 20 year olds serve for a year and get to choose in what capacity they will be serving. which aint a bad idea. it'll help young people pay for college and they will get to live in another part of the country while they're serving their country.

but all this crap about nazis is just pc25 fear and paranoia.

if you're afraid of this bill, you're probably afraid of the girl scouts, another national service program that has (gasp!) uniforms.

Have any of you actually looked up the groups who would be running these camps?

    Right, you haven't.

Therefore you are supporting womething about which you know nothing. Just like The house, senate and president signed a bill they had never read.

Sounds like Democrat policies in action.

The thing that makes me laugh the most is that on one thread you have those jackasses PC25, Red(Rocket)J, Doggie2007 and KlarissiatheKlarvoiant calling Obama "the Messiah" while on other threads they call him Hitler and other threads, Marx.

    Schitzophrenia abounds.

The real thing, the highest form of megalomania, is the person who absolutely believes he is chosen by fate, or God, or sheer force of energy to be better, stronger, chosen, for the good of the lesser masses.

a historical term for behavior characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, genius, or omnipotence . . . or preoccupation with one's own estimation of having and/or obtaining, grandiosity and extravagance (especially in the form of great fame and popularity, material wealth, social influence or political power, or more than one or even all of the aforesaid)
