S.C.Good article, I should no better but I use a lot of salt, I know I should no better because I am an Emergency Medical Technician I ault to be wooped on the head. but I love everything I eat with salt on it, not sweets now but every thing else. I tell the Pt about eating to much salt and do it my own self. What kind of EMT am I? I should practice what I preach.

My dad was a cardiologist and passed at 93yo in late 2007. He was a strong advocate of a diet that included sodium rather than a salt-free diet. Here's why:

Truth is, everything we eat has some sodium, there are few foods that are sodium-free. What hampers people on reduced sodium diets is they overlook foods high in natural sodium, so even if they are hiding the salt shaker and not salting foods, they are getting lots of sodium from prepared foods such as luncheon meats, condiments, TV dinners and other convenience foods.

SenorCoconut is right on. And one that drinks a lot of pure water can help filter out that excess

sodium taken in just canned good have to mingled with non salted material to get a healthy balance and avoid blood thickening straining the heart.
