It isn't necessary to stifle someone who is held in such low regard by the American public. Let him and Rush Limbaugh continue to rant. They are the true faces that represent the Republicans that I have come to know through my work and posting on boards like Propeller.

The richer the melting pot gets the less relevant these men (and women) become. Unless they change their mindset they may only have a few more shots at true power. And that will only come if the people become desperate out of economic need and forget who put us in this position in the first place. The election of Obama showed this nation has changed (and for the better). -

Well, it seems that Gen. "kiss aasss" Petraeus still has political ambitions. First he failed three times in Iraq (where the Sunnis he armed are now attacking the government) and is on his way to failure in Afghanistan as well. We shouldn't forget that Petraeus´s main interest is zionism and that the Obama administration is also full of israel-firsters.

General Petraeus: Zionism’s Military Poodle
... In theory and strategy, in pursuit of defeating the Iraqi resistance, General Petraeus was a disastrous failure, an outcome predictable from the very nature of his appointment and his flawed wartime reputation.
In the first instance, Petraeus was a political appointment. He was one of the few high military officials who shared Bush and the Zioncons’ assessment that the ‘war could be won.’...
...The only organized group, which took up Petraeus’, campaign to blame Iran for the US defeats was the Zionist Power Configuration in the US. In the Congress, media and public forums, Zionists amplified and backed Petraeus. They see him as a critical ally in countering the National Intelligence Report absolving Iran of having a program to develop nuclear weapons. No other high military commander, in Europe or the US, took up Petraeus call to arms against Iran… except the Israeli military command.
...The advance of Petraeus is a victory of the Zionist Power Configuration in its quest for American military leaders willing to pursue Israel’s agenda of sanctions and war against Iran. That is why the ZPC was a factor in the ousting of Admiral William Fallon, and why the main propaganda bulletin (the Daily Alert) of the Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations worked for and hailed his promotion to military overseer of the Middle East wars. AIPAC and their bought and bonded Senators ensured Petraeus an easy time during his confirmation hearing and his unanimous endorsement. His appointment marks the first time that the Zionist Power Configuration has trumped the views and opinions of the majority of active and retired American military officers. How far Petraeus will go in ‘paying back’ his debt to his long-term Zionist backers for his meteoric rise remains to be seen. What is certain is that they will demand that he line up with the State of Israel in pushing forth toward a war with Iran. ...

It's good to see Petraeus saying this now, but it would have been nice if he had spoken out solidly against the Bush torture policy when it would have counted. Why is it that these supposedly fearless military men sit on their thumbs while things are happening, and only "come out against" these things AFTER the fact? I realize their duty to serve their commander, but when their commander is breaking the law and shredding the Constitution, isn't it their duty to defy them???

Didn't you notice how when any general spoke out against Bush/Cheney's policies they were fairly quickly replaced with someone who would do whatever Bush/Cheney told them? -

Yellow bellied, never served, cowardly draft dodging, shoot 'em in the face war criminal Dick Cheney has repeatedly proved that he is the lowest form of putrid scum that ever overflowed from a septic tank.

The salient point is, what will be the ultimate outcome in Iraq. Gen. Petraeus is clear on this topic, and as the ground commander credited with making the most progress under the most difficult circumstances, his words ought to count...even if they are at odds with the emerging policy of Obama:

"the gains [achieved in Iraq] are tenuous and unlikely to survive without an American effort that outlasts [my] tenure."
See? Now you America haters can go back to slandering Petraeus the way you always have. Disagreement with Cheney, you now know, does not make Petreaus an Obama bobble head.-

That's what's wrong with the conservative side of the entire Iraq debate. Yes, a success is the ultimate goal, but not at all costs. The ends never justify the means, and such an argument is never a valid one. But even if it were, then torture should be as far from our minds as anything in the world since it's been proven over and over again that the only intelligence gained through torture has been junk. The only viable intelligence that has ever been gained in this war was through humane means. Just yesterday, top interrogation officials under Bush released yet another report substantiating this fact. Torture doesn't work. So, if <the only salient point is, what will be the ultimate outcome in Iraq</i> then this current stand against torture should be accepted by all who believe the ends justify the means.

"Dick Cheney is saying Obama has made the US unsafe.
Gen. Petraeus disagrees with Dick Cheney's assessment, and further denounces the Bush torture policy."
History should not be conveniently swept under the carpet when holding Bush accountable for torture. The man was doing lots of other bad stuff, but torture is like an perk that has descended thru the ages, passed on from princes and queens, paladins and those who consort with them, the modern centurions only having inherited the practice as their due privilege/right, a TRADITION, heavens to betsy. It was merely 'leaked' or without the quotes. An embarrassment that should be sub rosa property of intelligentsia universally. How could there be secret intelligence with everything brought into the daylight. Heavens... to betsy -
