YouTube has been moving to bring in legitimate, licensed content from TV networks and movie studios for some time, inking deals with the likes of CBS and MGM , among others. Now, that professionally produced content is going to become the focal point of the site, as Google Google reviews plans to launch a major redesign within the next month.

    Will they be dropping the You from the name?! Is tube.com already taken? Har-har. But seriously. Many people are seeing this as a signal that Google is, for the most part, throwing in the towel on monetizing user-generated content, at least in the role of ad revenue wrapped around it driving the viability of the site. Could it be that, with its new focus on professionally produced content from the big media players, Google is positioning itself to compete against the broadcast and cable networks? YouTube for Television is already here, being developed on multiple platforms: Apple TV, TiVo and the big three gaming consoles.
