This is something the US should have been doing years ago. Innovation and entrepreneurship in the auto industry has been stifled by management and led down the wrong track and now it's time to switch. The public was reticent during the Carter presidency to see the need and urgency to become independent from oil but now their eyes have been opened. I hope it isn't wasted.

The best solution for us is to convert trucks, school buses, etc. to natural gas. We have plenty.

Large numbers of electric vehicles would require additional power plants here, plus shortages of the materials to make batteries and the cost of disposing of used batteries, will eventually create much higher costs.

Detroit needs to get on it. The technology has been there for years. They just haven't developed it.

meanwhile, US will keep propping up failed auto companies instead of allowing the free market electric car companies to destroy them.

My grandfather taught me to repect the People in the US because he would always tell me all the things that they had accomplished, we even watched when you put a man on the moon. This story that comes out of China is no surprise for me though since the world has changed much since then. The Chinese have yet to develope the attitude that they are on top and so they still have ambition to accomplish things, which is something that we here in North America and in other parts of the world seem to be lacking. I sometimes wonder if part of the problem has to do with it costing even individuals so much money to develope new ideas and then have them bought out and shelved by large companies who like the status quo.
Really learning Chinese as a second language is starting to seem like a good idea.

Somebody has to do it and SOON! If Detroit isn't smart enough to figure this out, then the big three can just dry up and fail. We have the technology, we have the brain trust, but we don't have the will because it won't make obscene profits!

We have seen the enemy and he is us!
