I am now a former FedEx employee, for over 20 years, as of today - I was laid off today.

I am eligble for retirement, and I can choose to take it or wait until later on.

But I was still laid off and still treated the same as everyone else that was laid off -- called into the manager's office, read all of the 'information', told what would happen, allowed to pick up a few things at my desk, told that all of my personal stuff would be shipped to me, surrendered my badge, and was escorted out of the building and out of the facility for the last time.

I couldn't talk to ANYONE else, I couldn't say goodbye to any coworkers, call any of them, email any of them - nada, nada, nada.

What is there to say? I really didn't think there was a high probability that I would become a statistic.

I'll be getting in line at the unemployment office and will start looking for something else. But I am not young and I fear that my prospects are few and far between for a decent job in the near future.
