Pew Poll: 1 In 5 White Evangelicals Still Believe Obama Is A Muslim »

More than two months into Barack Obama's presidency, as many people incorrectly identify him as a Muslim as did so during the 2008 campaign. When asked about Obama's religious beliefs, 11% say he is a Muslim. In October, 12% said Obama is a Muslim, which was unchanged from earlier in the campaign.

In the current survey, 35% say they do not know Obama's religion, either because they do not know enough about him (22%), or because they have heard different things about his religion (13%); another 6% refused to answer.

As was the case last fall, white evangelical Protestants (19%) and Republicans (17%) are among the most likely to view Obama as a Muslim. Fewer than half in each group -- 38% of white evangelicals and 46% of Republicans -- correctly identify Obama as a Christian.

1 in 5 white evangelicals believe Obama is a Muslim, huh? Guess we know where that 21% that still wish Bush were President can be found.

Pew poll? How about a puke poll.

Such a waste of potential when ignorance like that exists. Sad. Truly sad that people throw their lives away to propaganda & manipulation.

I'm sure that comparable percentages also PURPORT at least equally strongly to believe in a literal (rather than an alllegorical) interpretation of the Book of Genesis, and in the notion that The Deity fawns over only US alone (out of all the vast universe it has created), and they probably also believe in the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy.

LOTS of people blithely "believe" whatever they WANT to believe, and equally blithely ignore mere "logical" inconsistencies and irrationalities in their systems of belief.

Well ofcourse they do. Obama is supose to be the enemy. The enemy cant believe in the same god as we do. Oh no, he has to be a Muslim. Yes Muslims are the enemy. Ofcourse the entire religion is responsible for 9/11 regardless of the facts that there are millions of muslims in our country not committing crimes of terroism, and are infact doctors and lawyers.

Anyone know the rule "once a Muslim ALWAYS a Muslim OR one is killed by a Muslim???? He was resistered as a Muslim as a child and attended prayers at the local Mosque until he left Indonesia.

OR did you hear the interview when he spoke "of my Muslim faith" only to amend it at the prompting of the interviewer??

There is grounds for believing he is still Muslim because of these facts AND his apparent departure from Orthodox Christian tenets of faith. All recorded on video tape!!!

Hi Redneck, A Muslim is a person who submits his will to the will of God but Obama is not a Muslim just because he was born to a Muslim father. He might have attended prayers and followed any other Islamic way of life when he was a kid but does he follow Islam now? There is no such thing as secret Muslim unless there is a threat to his life. BTW, Is it wrong to be a Muslim in a country that is Secular not a religious theocracy? Why can't be a Secular Muslim like Husny Mubarak or any other despot becoming a leader of America? I don't see any difference between Zardary of Pakistan and an American leader they are both same in their greed for power and control and also when it comes to hypocrisy and they have nothing to do with the religion especially Islam because Islam will never compromise any of its principle for the sake of worldly life and pleasure.

Why is it that the Evangelical right has such a low level of intellectual curiosity? I would seem that they are incapable of original thought. RRJ has shown time and time again that his facts are based on opinion and hearsay. The twists and turns he uses to justify his inane statements are astounding.

The heading of the poll was "No Decline in Belief That Obama is a Muslim".

The sub-heading was "Nearly 1-in-5 White Evangelicals Thinks So"

Based on the poll numbers, the sub-heading just as easily could have been:
"More Republicans now think that Obama is Christian than before" ,
        OR
"Fewer Democrats now think that Obama is Christian than before"
        OR
"About(.35)-in-5 Democrats still think Obama is Muslim"

This can all be understood by looking at the poll data and applying some simple thought to it.

At the end of his presidency, 23-25% of Americans still supported Bush.

Which shows there will always be a minority percentage of stupid people who will believe whatever they're told to believe despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.
