Last Thursday, the UN Human Rights Council took another step on the path to insanity by passing a resolution that urges UN member nations to pass laws criminalizing the criticism of religion, specifically Islam.

Sigh. This is an absurd and wholly political development that's sure to add credence to the argument of Americans who'd like us out of the UN. It's a terrible idea.

But before anyone comes here and says they'd like to see the UN disbanded, I just want to remind them that the UN does much more than pass such resolutions--for example, it runs UNICEF and WHO, both organizations worthy of whole-hearted support.

Organized religion needs to be criticized constantly and vehemently. Organized religion is a pox on humanity.

    FTA:

It hardly needs to be said that such a resolution is wholly incompatible with free speech and democracy. As Canadian diplomat Terry Cormier said, "It is individuals who have rights and not religions." Luckily, the resolution, like most UN resolutions, has about as many teeth as its representatives do vertebrae - that is to say, none at all.

FTA: Islam, as a religion, cannot "say" or "do" anything; it is individuals who say and do things, not religions.

Islam does espouse killing all those who do not believe in Islam. It is in the Quran and is a command of Muhammad. Just read a book by former Muslims who know what Islam teaches and the commands of the Quran. That is their statement.

The Bible does not command killing all unbelievers even in the OT. New Testament Christianity does not espouse killing people who do not become Christian. Islam is set on converting all mankind to Islam by conquering all nations or killing all who refuse to be Muslim. Any true believer in Islam is bound to obey this directive or they are not true believers.

It is not isolated terrorists we are dealing with although there seems to be only a portion of the Muslim world which intends to follow this directive by terrorism such as we are seeing. But they are seeking to rally all Islam to obey the decree.
