The Shameful 10 Democratic Senators Who Voted to Protect Multimillionaires »
Posted By capj71 10 months, 1 week ago in NewsEven though the unemployment rate rose from 8.1% to 8.4% over the past month last night the Senate passed a $250 billion amendment to slash the estate tax for multimillionaire estates. Ten Democrats joined with Republicans to add the amendment to the Obama budget. It is no shock that these 10 Dems are now trying to pretend like the vote didn’t happen.

Probably because millionaires like the AIG group don't deserve to be millionaires. There are ways around the inheritance tax is they are willing to part with the money before death. Only greed makes them hoard the money why they are still alive.

Explain to me again why the gov't needs to tax inheritance and estates?
Reply
Because the government needs money? And because every transfer of wealth is taxed.
This is not just about millionaires mind you.
Yes it is. 99 8% of Americans are not affected by the loophole created by this amendment. -

Explain to me again how our wealth disparity is the widest in the Industrialized World?

Remember how they told us it was because the ones at the top were 'worth it'?
That they had to be paid huge sums because that was what the going price for their talent was worth?
It's obvious that for many their main talent was Book Cooking and the millions and billions of dollars they 'earned' by fraudulent means SHOULD be confiscated in my book.
This just goes to show that the our democracy has been corrupted and will not be taken back without a fight! -

For all of you who don't like it, you are not the government. You don't get the money. The government takes your money too. The government is not your friend. If you have more money, they will take more money from you. They care nothing about you. Money taken from anybody doesn't help you. It helps government collect it and spend it on things you don't even care about. They spend it on pork and pet projects. They waste tons and tons of it.

And yet, you would support them taking even more when we die. Sell the business to pay the tax; to hell with your wife and family. The government needs the money more because they want to spend it the way they want.
Get the government out of our lives please. Those who inherit spend lots of it on homes, cars vacations, thereby creating good jobs for others and payig more taxes.-

BS. And that's a straw man argument. Obama promised that we'll be returning to Clinton tax levels.

And he is. Good.
The ultra-rich have been coddled under Bush and the rest of us - and I mean the rest of us at ALL levels of the middle class (what's LEFT of us) and the poor - suffer.... -

Of course, both of my senators, Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln (lapdogs that they are for Wal-Mart and Tyson), voted for this egregious amendment. Nevermind that they voted against the interests of 99.9% who would not be affected by the estate tax. It's the perception, you see...

IMO, my state's entire congressional delegation - with the exception of John Boozman (who represents my district and), who actually IS a Republican and Vic Snyder (who represents my old district, including Little Rock), who actually is fairly liberal - are DINOs (DEMOCRATS in name only). It's sooo frustrating! -

That is assuming we are all poor and don't have a pot to p*** in.

Hey, I know...maybe it's just that we have a social conscience. Maybe it's just that we think deeper than "every for man for himself." Maybe it's just that we are NOT selfish a**holes!

These Democrats should be ashamed of themselves, and no matter when they are up for re-election, our memories should be long and this should be an issue in the primaries.

These things all add up. For example, the budget calls for elimination of Medicare Advantage programs, which are Medicare HMO's run by insurance companies subsidized by the federal government. THESE PLANS OFFER ENROLLEES MORE BENEFITS THAN MEDICARE AND CLOSE SOME OF THE MEDICARE GAPS. Their elimination will definately hurt the severely disabled, as federal law and 29 states do not require Medigap insurers to offer their policies to Medicare recipients under 65 (ie the disabled). The severely disabled need more medical care than the general population, and lack of any means to close the Medicare gaps, even if they are willing to pay a premium, can potetially ruin them financially. Rather than address something like this, which is of vital importance to the disabled, and instead focus on the needs of the super rich, are the types of things that are making many Americans lose their patience.
The severely disabled have been left out in the cold because of other "priorities" - and that seems to be the norm in this country. And, misplaced priorities add up: $900 million to rebuild Gaza (merely a footnote in the news); $250 million so that rich kids who would already get a huge inheritance get an even larger one.
Obama is CERTAINLY an improvement over Bush, but we Americans who care about the middle class need to make sure the campaign promises turn into realities. We need to insist this country has national healthcare for everyone, then let the private insurance companies compete against the national program. Its disgraceful that private insurers have owned our Congress for decades.
This country can fix its economic woes, and it can do it without forgetting the middle class and the hundreds of thousands of people whose world turned topsy turvey (sp?)when they were laid off.
