US to fight 'anti-Israeli crap' at UN »
Posted By dissent 7 months, 3 weeks ago in NewsThe US envoy to the United Nations says that Washington has a duty to fight the growing anti-Israeli sentiments in the world.
In a Friday interview with the Politico, Susan Rice said that the Obama White House was determined to "fight against the anti-Israel crap" at the UN.
The anti-Israeli sentiment began to become commonplace after Tel Aviv launched an all-out military strike against the Gaza Strip using conventional and uncomventional weapons against the Palestinians.
Rice hailed the attempt as a crusade for "the principles we believe in," echoing the former US administrations' staunch and blind support for Israel.
She made the remarks speaking in favor of the White House's decision to re-attend the UN's Human Rights Council.
"We have a record of abject failure from having stayed out. We've been out for the duration and it has not gotten better. It's arguably gotten worse."
The US pulled out of the UNHRC in 2006 complaining later that the body had "squandered its credibility" with repeated attacks on Israel and criticizing it for its "singular focus" on Tel Aviv in place of other "rights abusers" such as "Cuba, Myanmar and North Korea."
The US has also withdrawn from a UN-led anti-racism conference, due in Geneva later in the month. The move followed hectic Israeli attempts to portray the event as anti-Semitic because it brought into focus Israel's ill-treatment of the Palestinians and attempted to pass a resolution likening Zionism to racism.
The US had also walked out of the previous conference in Durban, South Africa in protest at its draft declaration among other things.

Why does it have that duty?
Does it have a duty to fight negative sentiment against any occupier that mistreats the people it occupies?
Does it have a duty to side with the bullies everywhere in the world, or is Israel special?-

The UN has caved into Israeli demands too any times. It's time for the UN to take a stand. In fact its time the US took a stand as well against the racist and supremicist policies of Israel. Israel has been a scar on Americas reputation for many years now.

Somehow you've forgotten, Candida, that it's Israel who offered peace to its Arab neighbors and it's the Arabs who repeatedly rejected each and every peace offer while demanding nothing less than destruction of Israel. I would recommend you to look at the definition of "bullying" at your favorite dictionary prior to continuing this discussion.
> Why does it have that duty?
Any person (and a state, for this matter) has a moral obligation to help those being threatened and attacked by violent fanatics. The US (as well as Britain and France) had the duty to fight Nazism when it threatened Chezhoslovakia and neglekted it only to confront the boldened Nazis about Poland several months later.
The US (and the rest of the world) has a choice - to fight Islamist racism and violence today or allow it to develop into a nuclear world war tomorrow. -

Actually susan Rice is just another of the israel-first traitors in the Obama administration. Someone who advocates supporting zionist racist ethnic cleansing has no business being a representaive of America. Rice should be fired.

JewsSansFrontieres shocked, shocked, that Zionism is going on in this administration
Pro-Israel figures on Obama team
Susan Rice and James Steinberg will chair the 41-member team announced Wednesday. Rice, an Africa expert in the Clinton administration, was tapped for the U.N. ambassadorship, and Steinberg, a Clinton-era deputy national security adviser, is set to be deputy secretary of state.
...Steinberg has close relations with the pro-Israel lobby. He reportedly helped draft Obama's speech in May to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and has emphasized pressing Arab nations and the Palestinians to recognize Israel and contain terrorism as a means of advancing the peace process.
Others on the president-elect's team with identifiable pro-Israel biographies include Dennis Ross, Clinton's top Middle East envoy; Jeremy Bash, a former AIPAC staffer and Al Gore's top foreign policy adviser in his 2000 run for the presidency; Daniel Shapiro, the Obama campaign's Jewish outreach director who as a Senate staffer helped draft the tough measures in the 2003 Syria Accountability Act; Mara Rudman, who helped shepherd the Holocaust insurance settlement through the International Commission on Holocaust Insurance Claims; and Daniel Kurtzer, a former ambassador to Israel who has counseled pressuring Israel to freeze settlements but who is well regarded in most of the pro-Israel community.
Notably absent are figures critical of Israel that Republicans predicted, often based on thin evidence, would feature prominently in an Obama administration: Robert Malley, a Clinton-era Middle East negotiator; Zbigniew Brzezinski, the Carter-era national security adviser; and Samantha Power, an expert on genocide.

Are Key Obama Advisors in Tune with Neocon Hawks Who Want to Attack Iran ?
... When it comes to Iran, however, it's far too early to dismiss the hawks. To be sure, they are now plying their trade from outside the corridors of power, but they have more friends inside the Obama camp than most people realize. Several top advisers to Obama -- including Tony Lake, UN Ambassador-designate Susan Rice, Tom Daschle, and Dennis Ross, along with leading Democratic hawks like Richard Holbrooke, close to Vice-President-elect Joe Biden or Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton -- have made common cause with war-minded think-tank hawks at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), and other hardline institutes.
Last spring, Tony Lake and Susan Rice, for example, took part in a WINEP "2008 Presidential Task Force" study which resulted in a report entitled, "Strengthening the Partnership: How to Deepen U.S.-Israel Cooperation on the Iranian Nuclear Challenge." The Institute, part of the Washington-based Israel lobby, was founded in coordination with the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), and has been vigorously supporting a confrontation with Iran . The task force report, issued in June, was overseen by four WINEP heavyweights: Robert Satloff, WINEP's executive director, Patrick Clawson, its chief Iran analyst, David Makovsky, a senior fellow, and Dennis Ross, an adviser to Obama who is also a WINEP fellow.
Endorsed by both Lake and Rice, the report opted for an alarmist view of Iran 's nuclear program and proposed that the next president set up a formal U.S.-Israeli mechanism for coordinating policy toward Iran (including any future need for "preventive military action"). It drew attention to Israeli fears that "the United States may be reconciling itself to the idea of 'living with an Iranian nuclear bomb,'" and it raised the spurious fear that Iran plans to arm terrorist groups with nuclear weapons.
There is, of course, nothing wrong with consultations between the United States and Israel . But the WINEP report is clearly predisposed to the idea that the United States ought to give undue weight to Israel 's inflated concerns about Iran . And it ignores or dismisses a number of facts: that Iran has no nuclear weapon, that Iran has not enriched uranium to weapons grade, that Iran may not have the know-how to actually construct a weapon even if, sometime in the future, it does manage to acquire bomb-grade material, and that Iran has no known mechanism for delivering such a weapon....

Israel acts like a genocidal racist by basically slaughtering palestinians and jewish protestors in plain view of everybody, behaving like absolute crazy nazis, and Obama is then ham-strung along to have to "defend" them from being blasted.
This would be pathetic if it wasn't as sad as what's next. While that is going on, the Florida drug cartel continues to traffic huge amounts of CIA-Mossad driven heroine for the Israel-firster crowd which runs Florida's prison industrial complex.
They don't go to jail, they get patted on the back by supreme criminal Jeb Bush who should already be in state jail & they sell this heroine/ecstasy drug to all the kids to get them drugged out and at the same time pass laws to outlaw hemp which is the most non-violent of all substances in the world!
They're dealing drugs, while preaching "MORALITY" and responsibility and saying people are unfair to call them on the carpet as the biggest crooks anyone's ever seen. Well I call 'em like I see it, and South Florida is an INSANE place full of criminal crooked lawyers and drug cartels!!!!
All the while POT is made illegal and benefits these cartels in the millions of dollars since its a forbidden fruit. At least 8 states legalized pot in state. We should have no laws against pot, they are totally absurd & a waste of money. We should de-criminalize hemp and end the overtly fascist War on Drugs by sending all the drug barons to prison and giving all the drug addicts mass rehabilitation counseling & therapy which actually works.-

Nice comment digital. As long as privatized prisons get 30,000 a year per head, then the drug business will fourish. And police will go for easy prey, like some 16 year old kid to grease the palms of the police, courts, and prison system. Well said.

A crime is a violation of one or more laws. The US administration "ignores Israeli crimes" because it does not see any such violations. It's YOUR fault and obligation to open their (and our) eyes. Please feel free to SHOW THE LAWS supposedly violated by Israel and PROVE that Israel indeed VIOLATED these laws.

"Israel on Trial
Reply
• Violating its duty to protect the civilian population of the Gaza Strip. Israel unleashed military firepower against a people it is legally bound to protect.
• Imposing collective punishment in the form of a blockade, in violation of Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
• Deliberately attacking civilian targets. Israeli fire destroyed or damaged mosques, hospitals, factories, schools, a key sewage plant, institutions like the parliament, the main ministries, the central prison and police stations, and thousands of houses.
• Willfully killing civilians without military justification. Gaza government employees — traffic policemen, court clerks, secretaries and others — are not combatants merely because Israel considers Hamas, the governing party, a terrorist organization. Many countries do not regard violence against foreign military occupation as terrorism.
With nearly all exits from the densely populated Gaza Strip blocked by Israel, and chaos reigning within it, this was a particularly cruel flaunting of international law. Willful killings of civilians that are not required by military necessity are grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions, and are considered war crimes under the Nuremberg principles.
• Deliberately employing disproportionate force. Last year, Gen. Gadi Eisenkot, head of Israel’s northern command, speaking on possible future conflicts with neighbors, stated, “We will wield disproportionate power against every village from which shots are fired on Israel, and cause immense damage and destruction.” Such a frank admission of illegal intent can constitute evidence in a criminal prosecution.
• Illegal use of weapons, including white phosphorus. Israel was finally forced to admit, after initial denials, that it employed white phosphorous in the Gaza Strip, though Israel defended its use as legal. White phosphorous may be legally used as an obscurant, not as a weapon, as it burns deeply and is extremely difficult to extinguish."

Well, America is a country that has long been the oppressor of the Muslim world. Of course it is the duty of the oppressor to see the proxy oppress the occupied. In fact it is the democratic duty to defend Israeli occupation and oppression. America has become the country that support oppression throughout the world. When it comes to Oil, gas and other things that has an American interest noting is wrong.

28 Oct. 1958: Menachem Begin said: "You Israelis, you should never become lenient if you kill your enemies. You shall have no pity on them till we have destroyed their so-called Arab culture, on the ruins of which we shall build our own civilization."

He was the head of the Jewish terrorist attack on the King David Hotel 22 Jul. 1946 that killed 91 people: 48 Arabs, 28 British, 17 Jews, and 5 others. Forty-five wounded. This was the largest terrorist attack until the 1982 bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon, by the way. When journalist Russell Warren Howe asked Begin if he considered him the father of terrorism in the Middle East, Begin proudly replied: No! Of the entire whole world!"
Sixty years later on the site of this atrocity, Benjamin Netanyahu proudly dedicated a plaque which calls the bombers "freedom fighters." -

It is time for America to take a stand against Israeli terrorism, genocide, and occupation. Ordinary Americans are paying a horrible price for the protection of Israel and we are tired of it. Expressing these views has nothing to do with anti-semitism; there is a difference between the admirable Jewish faith versus the horrors of Zionism and Israeli terrorism. Free speach as a 'Western' value must be accepted and supported, even when it points out wrongs. Return the Golan to Syria, retreat Israeli borders back to their pre-1967 lines, create a contiguous neighboring Palestinian state, resettle the Palestinian refugees who are living in Lebanon and other countries back in their homeland, and stop the unconditional love for Israel in instances where it is horribly violating human rights. When you keep a people repressed, they will live in ignorance and resort to counter-reaction.

Dissent - as I watched 60 minutes, I realized that this article is from an Iranian source. The reason it was brought to mind is because the segment on 60 Minutes showed bodies wriggling at the end of ropes designed to slowing strangle them as the were hung - this was a public execution in Iran of men accused of being homosexuals, there were 300 executions in Iran last year, 45 of which were women who were stoned to death by being buried up to their shoulders & stoned with government sanctioned stones designed to be of a size to extend the time taken for them to die and thereby extend the pain.

regardless of what you think of the source of this article, ace, the words "fight against anti-israeli crap" are the exact words of our un envoy susan rice. at least according to a mr ben smith who, sitting in new york, claims to have interviewed ms rice at the time of her uttering these words, and who writes for politico. polito is based in arlington, virginia, and is a publication of capitol news company, llc, a division of allbritton communications company.

it is ben smith and politico who are cited as the source for the press tv article.
here is his article, note that this is the original article, which was published in politico 4/4:

feel free to discredit it however you wish. ben smith in new york, politico in virginia, and american companies capitol news and/or allbritton may have links to tehran and public hangings, but i can't be sure. i'll leave that to you to investigate
meantime, the only challenge that is valid and worth considering here really is to the accuracy of our un envoy susan rice's quotation - "the anti-israeli crap."
this is what is being called into question here and how that affects us with susan rice now as our representative at the un and, according to what are supposedly ms rice's exact words "the anti-israeli crap," driven with a quite specific and focused agenda in mind in her new role as un envoy. it's not the credibility of press tv, ben smith, politico, capitol, allbritton, iran, 60 minutes, homosexuals and hangings, that's being challenged here. that's all just just smoke and mirrors puffed up and arranged by you
as for your efforts to discredit me with your psychobabble, that too, is irrelevant. i could just as easily say i believe you are spadecaller's sock puppet, which i do, who, due to the immensity of his/your ego, couldn't resist maintaining the consistency of his/your brand in the naming of his/your avatar. but that too is irrelevant and serves nothing else but the purpose of smear. as does your need to publicize your insults aimed at me disguised as nothing more than armchair pop-psychology opinions based on little else than comments expressed on a blog.
the only naivity and its accompanying stupidity belongs to those who choose to believe it unquestioningly
other than that, given your personal penchant for defining words in the vaguest and most liberally generous of possible terms, i'm sure you'll find some way of disguising the obvious meaning in "fight anti-israeli crap."

It also stated that the conference had removed 17 pages of anti-Israel statements fro the aggenda --- But that wouldn't have suited your purposes -would'nt it? you foolish hack?
Those Iranian bodies twisting in the wind were a pretty dramatic thing to see tonight -- maybe it was Israeli propaganda

it's curious how you should pay no interest in the meaning of our un envoy stating quite clearly that her role is to, using her words, "fight anti-israeli crap," but instead choose to focus on a matter that is of minor consequence and will be verified, one way or the other, in just over two weeks time
for the record, the 17 deleted pages were anything and everything that made any mention of israel at all.... what you call "anti-israeli statements." what susan rice calls "crap."
so in just over 2 weeks at the un racism conference 2009, there won't be a squeak heard about israel, or its massacre of 1400+ palestinians just over 2 months ago in gaza. the truth has been effectively silenced in order to maintain, as per the usual hypocrisy, the imperial order of things. this was the condition we set in order for us to attend. it is also the reason we walked out of the conference in durban in 01.... because israel was criticized
also for the record, press tv wasn't the first and only news source to make this claim before we changed our minds to say.... "hmmm, maybe, we'll think about it and we'll get back to you."
press tv's only crime (villainous murderous muslims that they are according to you) is not having kept up with our manipulations and fickleness and reported with the update of our current power-tripping indecisiveness

you have chosen to attack press tv over its (mis)reporting of the un racism conference.
your words: "Rice said that the US DID NOT definitely pull out of the conference on anti-racism on April 20 in Geneva."
i have provided you with headlines from many of the world's major news sources that support what press tv has said. you have also chosen to attack press tv because it is iranian and therefore equivalent to, and of the standard of, your 60 minutes viewing.
i take your obfuscations followed by your fixation on this as evidence that you really don't have anything to say but you must find something to offer as disruption if only because you have a personal bone to pick with me. and that is really only for no other reason than that i choose to criticize israel. something that is abhorrent and unimaginable to you. therefore your comments to me now are rife with spiteful malice
which makes all of this entirely beside the point. the point of this thread are rice's words "to fight anti-israeli crap." you say i am sensationalizing these words. i think you're wrong. i think that's precisely what she aims to do and there is nothing sensationalized, exaggerated, distorted or convoluted about what she has said. she could not have made herself more clear or pointed
