Michelle Obama has been busy demonstrating both what an immense asset she is to her husband and his mission and what an inspiring human being she is in her own right.
Not only did she charm and delight the Queen, but here she is mingling with a multi-racial cast of schoolgirls and knocking their socks off too.
I found it a tear-jerker - but I am a softie (except when confronted by prejudice, hypocrisy, unkindness, cruelty, racism, fascism, communism, violence and lies).

  I prefer the choice of the wife of the Spanish Prime Minister - she stayed home (as did the husbands of the German and Argentine Prime Ministers). Frankly I could care less whether Micehlle gets along with an irrelevant old fogy like the "queen". Neither does Michelle have much of anything relevant to the world to say. This is just "feel good distraction".

    hyperbola - Just for once you can tone down that flinty-eyed, cold-blooded, better-than-thou attitude. Considering how much damage Bush did to our international prestige, goodwill, and reputation, we need to repair our relationships with many of our estranged allies.
    
    Also in the current economic crisis, the USA and the rest of the world need a coordinated effort to recover. Again good will is tremendously important in getting international cooperation.
    
    You are most shortsighted to call it a mere distraction and fail to see the ultimate benefits of Michelle Obama's charm, openness, and grace.

      Did you get your impression that Michelle was important from the American or foreign press? For the most part foreigners are not part of the myths propagated in America as state propaganda. A good part of the foreign press I read about Obama's visit regarded Michelle as an unimportant distraction that was mostly for the benefit of the "home market". To imagine that any "charm, openness and grace" of Michelle has any contribution to "repairing our relationships" is unduly simple minded.
