Republicans are going to filibuster Dawn Johnson's appointment to head up OLC anyway.
Reply
I say, threaten them with the same "nuclear" option the Republicans threatened the Democrats with when Republicans ran Congress. Actually, Democrats don't even have to threaten to remove filibustering altogether--all they have to do is change the rules to lower the number of votes necessary to close debate from 60 to 57 or 58.-

Obama promised to try to bring republicans and democrats together, but they have fought him every step of the way, refusing to co-operate with him on any thing that is for the good of the nation.

We, as a nation, need closure on the crimes committed against, not only the U.S. but the world, by the Bush admin. IMO, until republicans in DC allows this to happen, they will continue to disappear as these people come up for re-election.
The nation needs to go "nuclear" (or as Bush would say, nucular,) on the republicans and get them out of the way so this country can heal and bring these criminals to justice.-

Because it's not relevant. We're more interested in Congress passing tax increases that will totally screw our great grand children. We're more interested in why the infrastructure in every DNC controlled state is in the crapper when we were all paying our taxes all along. In Wisconsin, where did all our fuel and registration money go? Where is all the money for roads, schools and other stuff? I suspect until the 2010 elections, we'll never know.

Republicans.. well the current people who call themselves that...
Reply
only believe in LAW AND ORDER and CHECKS AND BALANCES.. when.. it affects THEIR INTERESTS...
you know .. finding the truth about a BL*W J*B is much more relevant to the world than torture memos..
60 million wouldn't cover anywhere near the cost of investigating the last administration.. -

Beau- "Change the Rules" that is one of the worse statements I have heard here on propeller. Why not declare martial law? OUR system was set up the way it is to make sure NO party can dictate to OUR nation. Maybe you would agree with martial law also?
Reply
Agree or disagree with a party BUT allow OUR political system to run as it was set up to be.-

The rules of debate in the Senate are not based on Constitutional law or any other. They are agreed upon by the members of the Senate.
Reply
Declaration of martial law would be something entirely different--violation of several major sections of the Constitution.
And as you know, the Republicans proposed changing those same rules when they were in control and Democrats threatened to filibuster. The threat alone may be enough to spur action, as it was before.

You imagine Obama as a coward?
Cowards do sometimes win high office;
but you can distinguish them from the brave.
The coward tells us lies;.
The brave politician tells us the truth .
It really isn't any diferent from Propeller, is it? -

It took Bush alot of courage to send people to die in Iraq when Bin Laden was in Afghanistan.
Reply
I guess they didn't want to find Bin Laden when there was alot of war bucks to be made in Iraq.
(hint: try investigating something for yourself) -

I don't like the idea of a nuclear option. I know Lott and McConnell (R) came up with that idea back in 2005, but I don't think they had the support to implement it. It was used as a threat to try to force some Democrat Senators to negotiate over some of the neocon judges they were trying to put through. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, I really would love to hear Lott and McConnell's views on it.

So let me get this straight. Obama releases the torture memo's showing Bush and or Cheney OKed torture, making republicans look bad. As retribution, republicans fillibuster Obamas selection for judges, making republicans look bad.

So what the republicans are saying is that they would rather stop the progress of government than to expose the previous administration as war criminals, just because Bush and Cheney are in the same party as them? While democrats attitude toward Magolavich (sorry for the spelling) is, if he commited a crime, string him up.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Obama and the Democrats. They should now tell the Republicans that every Obama nominee should be approved forthwith. If any of the appointments are rejected or even held up, THEN THE BUSH MEMOS WILL BE RELEASED.
Reply
Maybe the counter-threat could be something like for every nominee held up, 10 Bush memos will be released
When the documents have to be released later under the Freedom of Information Act, then the truth will come out anyway.
If Reps use the memos as a weapon, so can the Dems. -

I can answer a simple question, but you obviously can't stay on topic, so let's play your game of answer-a-question-with-a-question:

Can you name the last private corporation to receive a multi-billion dollar bailout from its government with no stipulation as to how those funds are applied and no conditions regarding the future operation of said corporation?
Can you name the person now in charge of GM and tell us why you believe he is one of Obama's "own people"? -

Speaking of Barney Frank,I woke up at about three this morning to a repeat of his speech at Harvard, where he blamed the housing melt-down on the home buyers taking out loans that they knew they couldn't pay back.I can see it now, mommy, and daddy find a much larger house, decide they just have it so they go home get their shotgun go to the bank, and purchase it.

Yawn. As if the Republican and Democrat parties are diametrically opposed or even out of synch with one another. Torture, war and economic collapse have been brought to you as yet another bipartisan effort.

Wake up. The USA is ruled by a one party system with two right wings. The USA being fsked in the ass by that two-headed monster falsely labled "the two party system." Get over the dance of tweedledee and tweedledum and decide what you are going to do to make things right.
