The alarm rang and I slowly awoke without a clue as to where I was or how I got here. The surroundings seemed oddly familiar, but why was I in a single bed and where were my glasses? My body felt lighter, and why was I wearing a pair of Lone-Ranger pajamas?

Remember Chesterfields and pall mall red. Remember PF flyers and Keds tennis shoes. Quarters, and dimes made out of silver. Buffalo nickels and mercury dimes. Remember a cereal named Quisp. Saturday morning cartoons. Two-hand touch between the manhole covers in New york city. Full service gas stations by men wearing uniforms. Lp's and 45's. The old victrola. Bonanaza and Walt disney on Sunday evenings. Superman played by George Reeves. Red skelter! Wow, what I would do for a do over. A tube tester for your television set at the local drugstore.

If you read my last comment and you know who Red Skelton is, then you'll love this one.

Did you know that they still make PF Flyers? I happen to have a pair. They're my FASTEST ever running shoes. I could probably get away from Mighty Mouse if I had to.

PF Flyers were first produced by BF Goodrich in 1937. They are now currently manufactured by New Balance.

I remember the old victrolas, the record player, and the plastic adapters that fit into the wholes of the 45's.

Do I dare say that I remember watching Andy's Gang! I even have recollections of Inky Dink... and the clear plastic vinyl that we placed over the tv screen so that we could color along while watching Inky Dink.

I remember the first TV set in my town. My great luck was that it belonged to my next door neighbor who just happened to have two boys, 1 a year younger and 1 a year older than me and my best friends. I was the envy of the rest of the towns kids.

Those were the days. Someone ought to make a lead in song using that phrase.

I never saw a working victrola, but we had a black and white Zenith TV when I was a kid -- no remote!

Loved the old Stones video, even if they were lipsynching.

A do over would be great, but I'd rather start at 18...

In Brooklyn where I grew up there used to be soda fountains. A place where you could get an "egg cream". I don't know how popular they were in other parts of the country, but in Brooklyn they were a big thing. Here's a great recipe for making an authentic New York "eggcream".
