And in the tradition of Obama's promises for transparency, there will be no secret recipe.

IS it legal to use his name like this? It sounds a bit racist to me, assuming that Obama even eats fried chicken because if his skin color. I'm not sure what to think about this one.

    This is a non-story.

However, it's reasonable to assume that someone/s would want to appropriate the name of a popular president to sell his or her product.

Think of the number of products with the name Lincoln, for example.

Seems kind of racist to me. Certainly in poor taste.

Here in Chicago the KFC's in white neighborhoods have signs advertising 10 and 20 piece family meals, but in some predominantly black neighborhoods Church's Chicken has signs that advertise 100 piece family meals.

It appears the business could be under black ownership and the name change the result of a new marketing ploy. Certainly the change was not meant to be an insult to the President, but rather a way to cash in on the name and make more sales.

I think Obama would have to have a copywrite on the word Obama to file a complaint.

I just bought some Obama watermelon the other day too.
And when I paid for it I didn't get any change.
Is there a franchise in the works?

Folks, I can only say that this story is not about racism. The chicken joint is in Harlem and is most likely owned by an African American. There are probably two intermingled motives for changing the name--pride and a desire to boost sales--and the president is not going to come charging into town and tear down the awning. Now, if somebody were setting up a multimillion dollar business that exploited Obama's name, it would be a different matter. This is more like a tongue-in-cheek homage.

The word "Obama" is not copyrighted nor patented. Nor can it be. Nobody has a case.

Question: If McCain would have become president would fried chicken restaurants start calling themselves "McCain's fried chicken"? If not, then why?

As long as they are mom and pop resturants they'll be okay. But if some one tries to francise his name, that's when it becomes illegal.

Rather by contention, or good will, any which way, Obama is being talked of like no other since Christ rode into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. The Sanhedrins tried to stop the people from cheering. Jesus said, " If these do not cheer, then the stones will cry out, for this is MY day".

Doesn't seem we can reach an agreement if this is racist or not, but can't we all just get along and acknowledge that Obama prefers wagyu beef and arugala salads.
