While gay and lesbian organizations in the United States fight for marriage equality, groups in other nations such as Russia fight for their right to assemble and protest peacefully. Different nations are at considerably different points of tolerance and acceptance of gays and lesbians. Spain, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, and South Africa have all reached the point of accepting gay marriage. Russia and Uganda would prefer that all gays die. The world has a long way to go.
