Comments for SURPRISE! EUROPEANS DISCOVER OBAMA's ARROGANCE »
Posted By pc25 9 months ago in NewsWhile the American media paints Barack Obama’s European tour as a balm on strained relations with EU allies, Europeans have a much different reaction to Obama today. After Obama endorsed Turkey’s bid to enter the EU, the Continental grumbling has broken through in the media — and the political class. Der Spiegel reports that German and French officials have begun complaining about Obama’s arrogance in injecting himself into a European decision, including French President Nicolas Sarkozy:

Obama Bashing in Bavaria and Paris
US President Barack Obama says Turkey's future is in the European Union. Not everyone agrees. Numerous politicians in Germany have gone on the attack, and even French President Sarkozy is unimpressed. Turkey's role at the NATO summit has soured the mood.
Now that Obama is in Turkey, however, some political camps -- particularly in Germany -- have discovered the political efficacy of Obama bashing. While in Ankara, Obama reiterated his support for Turkish membership in the European Union, a position he first voiced on Sunday in Prague. That doesn't sit well with some.
"Turkey is bound to Europe by more than bridges over the Bosporus," Obama told the Turkish parliament on Monday. "Centuries of shared history, culture and commerce bring you together. And Turkish membership would broaden and strengthen Europe's foundation once more."
It is a sentiment not universally shared in Europe. On Monday, a number of politicians, particularly in Germany, went on the offensive. "It is a meddling in the internal affairs of Europe," Bernd Posselt, a member of the European Parliament from Bavarian's conservative Christian Social Union (CSU), blustered in an interview with SPIEGEL ONLINE. "The EU is not Obama's plaything. ... He should accept Turkey as America's 51st state instead," he continued.-

I thought Presidents had staff who were supposed to advise them so they would not embarrass themselves or their country. Is Obummer's staff as ignorant as the Obummer's themselves? Must be after all the blunders Barry and Michelle made on their first state visit. Obummer needs to apologize to the America when he returns.

Again - nostalgia, let me explain this to you
Reply
In several countries in the East, bowing is shown as a sign of respect.
Have you ever taken Karate? You're supposed to bow to your family/audience before entering the ring and exiting. To show respect to both them and to the dojo.
In fact in Japan if you're a person who never bows, they see you as a massive VERY disrespectful ass.
Of course you wouldn't know that would you. "America's so great, learning about other cultures is pointless, they're dumb" "Multiculturalism is overrated" Right?-

The U.S. State Department's office of protocol, in a statement attributed to acting chief of protocol Gladys Blouda, confirmed the type of greeting between heads of state depends on the customs of the countries, but a handshake is the most common form of greeting.
Reply
The online Travel Etiquette website for Saudi Arabia said handshakes are common greetings between members of the same sex.
Traditionally Americans do not bow or curtsy to a foreign monarch because the gesture symbolizes recognition of his or her power over their subjects -

Interesting that though you guys gave Bush hell for holding this guy's hand (which I dind't like either) you don't have a problem with him being the 'first' to bow? I mean the LEADER of the world bowing to the Kind of Saud? Mahhhh it's just Multiculturalism.

--Indeed, Sarkozy was quick to reject Obama’s support for Turkish EU membership. Speaking after the US president said in Prague on Sunday that membership for Turkey would “ensure we continue to anchor Turkey firmly in Europe,” Sarkozy said: “I have been working hand in hand with President Obama, but when it comes to the European Union it is up to member states … to decide'--
Sarkozy's comments show that the European leadership will protect their countries' interests first when push comes to shove. Will Obama protect ours in the same situation? I have my doubts. -

The general tone he has taken on this trip has not sounded quite right to me. I have been happy he has been received as well as he has been, but to criticize the previous administration, to use the word derisive, and then scold Europe for their attitude, just doesn't sit right with me. To advocate a different direction, a different approach is fine. To try to gain confidence and cooperation is great, but perhaps he should leave the EU membership to the EU.

The truth is...yes, Barack Obama was met with a FEW protesters - just as Bill Clinton was when the issues were WTO, NAFTA, and GATT. But overall, he and Michelle were met with enthusiastic crowds on this trip. The best thing he accomplished - and I cannot stress how VERY IMPORTANT this is - was to repair the relationships with many of our allies.
The Obamas are popular the world over, just as are the Clintons....and you nutcases JUST CANNOT STAND IT!
You need to get over it. You lost the election....
On second thought, keep at it. Most people think you 28%ers are f***ing crazy, anyway.... Help us elect MORE DEMOCRATS in 2010. Progress has FINALLY come and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

LET'S SEE OBAMA JUST HAD A GOOD POLL WITH 66% FAVORABILITY,,,,, LET'S DO THE MATH AND COME UP WITH 28% SHALL WE?
"Help us elect MORE DEMOCRATS in 2010. Progress has FINALLY come and there is nothing you can do to stop it."
Don't bet your birkenstocks on that Scott,,,,,,, Even the most radical leftists I know that voted for Obama are starting to wonder if they made a mistake,,,,, it looks like the 28% is growing and they are moving from the left to the right,,,,,, the right is far from dead,,,,,,, You do know that it was said the LEFT was dead 8 years ago don't ya? Second, when compared to the crowds that greeted them, the numbers of the protesters were small in comparison. And yes, I did see the footage from London.....but I also saw all the other coverage....did you?
I am right. Most of you on the right are just chompin' at the bit, waiting....WAITING for Obama to fail. And you can't get him for lyin' about chasing fat chicks under oath like you did Clinton, so a bunch of unhinged lies are spread (ie: Obama's a terrorist. Obama's a secret Muslim. Obama's a socialist. Obama's a communist. Obama's a Marxist. Obama's a fascist [that one I find really amusing, seeing as the last Administration was nearly a fascist dictatorship trampling on 6 of the rights in the Bill of Rights....but since they had the (R) behind their names they got a free pass from you lemmings and even from the press until the last 2 years].).
And I see something missing this time around....an organized Republican Party. By this time in 1993, the seeds for the Contract for America - or as I like to call it, Contract ON America - were already being sown. The Democrats were really nothing more than Republican Lite at that point so the REAL Republicans got the votes. And they got the votes presenting ideas (wrongheaded as I think they were) that the American public believed at the time. I see nothing like that this time around. The Republicans are as disorganized and adrift as I have seen them since Watergate.
The Democrats will gain more seats in 2010.-

Did you want Bush and the right to fail Scott? I mean you'd have to to make a statement like "Help us elect MORE DEMOCRATS in 2010. Progress has FINALLY come and there is nothing you can do to stop it."
I mean can't you be intellectually honest that though people don't want the 'country' to fail they want the ideas of a different political mindset to fail so the ideas more in line with theirs will prosper?
GOOD GAWD the rest was straight from the leftist talking point manifesto Scott,,, is that all you can do is parrot things?
BTW wouldn't you think the government taking over private companies instead of letting them file chapter 11 or 13 a bit fascists? Isn't that the very thing that Italian dictator did?

And FYI...I DID NOT want Bush to fail. To tell you the truth, I was guilty of saying (upon his Supreme Court SELECTION in 2000), " Well, he'll only be a one term president. He'll give the surplus to his rich buddies and we'll get another Democrat in 2004." What's the worst that could happen? Right?
...Of course, 9/11 was the worst that could happen. And good ol' George W. was alseep at the wheel. IT WAS THEN that I woke up out of slumber. And I warned everyone that I could that going to war in a country that did not attack us - and whose leader was a mortal enemy of Osama bin Laden - was a mistake. Now most understand and agree with what I was saying then, but it's taken a while. Under the guise of "fighting for our freedom" or "liberating the Iraqi people from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein" or (you name it, the by line changed weekly....), many were swept away in the hysteria of the time....
Jeez, as I am writing all this down it is still hard to believe that so many were so gullible for so long.
Yes. I will admit that I am ashamed of the Bush 44 presidency. I started out giving him the benefit of the doubt, but he turned out to be the worst president in the history of this country.
You, on the other hand, have not, are not, and will not give Obama a chance. (... And hey listen, I have no quabble with loyal opposition....but let's be clear here: Presenting IDEAS is one thing. Spreading lies is another...And if you are free market fundamentalist opposed to any trace of socialism, then embrace it. But don't say I didn't give the Bush a chance, because I did. We all did.-

You, on the other hand, have not, are not, and will not give Obama a chance. Once again talking points,,,,,,,,,, I gave him the benefit of doubt, in fact I came in here and congratulated his win and hoped he would do well,,,,, I was pleased with his first appointments and said so,,,,,, then he let in Lobbyists after promising he would not do so,,,,,, he allowed tax evaders in his administration,,,,,,,, then he spent trillions of dollars without 'transparency' , then he allowed billions in earmarks (9,000 of them) after promising to go line by line and not allow them,,,,,, he's taken over private business,,,, now he's raised taxes on me and the poor by tripling the tax on smokes. Then adding insult to injury he based America abroad, he didn't respect the Dead at Normandy enough to go visit the brave men that died for him to have the privilege to be president of the US and then followed that by bowing to the Kind of SA.
With all this, you somehow have no problem with it and you claim I haven't given him a 'chance' since I find those actions repugnant? At this rate how much 'chance' do you want me/us to give him? 6 more months? 2 years? 4? 8?

To be fair, G7 and G20 attract protesters wherever they go and whoever is attending there meetings. I believe if you were able to analyze the protest crowds you would find a very small minority that were protesting Obama or any other single participant. They are protesting the organizations not the individuals. The same applies to NATO meetings.

This one did.
Traditionally American presidents turn their attentions to the outside world when everything at home goes to hell. For Mr Obama you could argue that things at home were already pretty dire so the normal rules were easy to break.
But he has taken to world diplomacy as if he were made for it. Which in a way, he was.
He is tall with long arms: this allows LBJ-style use of stature to impose power and will.
And he has a fine mind: diplomats value this. In a meeting in Prague, a diplomat told a colleague that the entire room was wowed by him - he had such a grasp of subjects. But just as importantly, he has an easy and self-effacing style that caused the Euro crowd to swoon.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/justinwebb...
The long-term does matter. In a year, if the Euro crowd want out of Afghanistan then this trip failed. In 10 years, if North Korea has built a spaceship and colonised the moon then this trip failed. In a century, if Turkey is an Islamic Republic with a national day to celebrate Osama Bin Laden's birthday, then this visit will have failed.
But if, in a year, or 10 or 100, we see a more united effort in Afghanistan, a more concerted effort against the North Koreans, and a Turkey even more modern and diplomatically mature, then he can claim to have done well.
If he is still around...

Obama is trying to get us out of the Middle East mess as quick as possible. Britain and France got bitten by Bush, so they are leary of the US. Their action is not about Obama, it's about trusting Bush and got left holding bag. So they don't want to get bitten twice. You can't blame then for that.
