FTA: Richard Poplawski in a bullet-proof vest guns down three policemen in Pittsburgh.

WHICH is against the law in most states for a private individual to have!!!!!!!!!!! So He was a criminal before he shot anyone. How about regulating the sale of bullet-proof vests!! Which are much more difficult to obtain than an gun. -

FTA: The guilty are the gun dealers at flea markets and state shows who will sell any number of weapons to anyone—juveniles, criminals, nuts—without any background check or records.

LIE!!! All of which are against the law in the first place and is not true by any stretch of the imagination unless you are totally against all guns!!! I seriously doubt those who make their living or any private individual at such a show would knowing sell to a juvenile, etc. Most cases one finds the guns were not purchased at a gun show anyway. FALSE accusation without any support.-

FTA: The guilty are the congressmen and senators who are scared of the National Rifle Association, arguably the most powerful lobby in the United States.

The NRA is a group of CITIZENS who have banned together like the NEA, AARP, etc. to be a watchman over overzealous politicians who would gut the BILL OF RIGHTS where it suits them to obtain power.
It is not a GUN LOBBY, It is CITIZENS who still believe government must be watched by the governed!!!-

Define "assualt weapon"
Tell which of the last three mass murders was committed with such a weapon?? Or any mass murders in the last ten years??
Assualt weapon is one used by the military WHICH IS AN AUTOMATIC FIRE WEAPON: HOLD THE TRIGGER AND IT FIRES UNTIL ALL BULLETS ARE GONE.
Semi-automatic: one pull of the trigger and one bullet exits. Not an assualt weapon. Congress has tried to define the following as assualt weapons: semi-auto pistols, semi-auto shotguns used for hunting birds, semi-auto rifles used for hunting, etc. The news media often defines similar weapons as "assualt weapons" merely by their configurations or they are semi-auto and not revolvers. Just do a little research. You do not need to go to the NRA website. There is a lot of help out there if you want to know the truth.-

Amendment II
Reply
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Redneck:
you want some suggestions on how to control arms without abridging the 2nd? okay...
1) all firearms must be housed at the armory of a well regulated, licensed, state militia.
2) all weapons and weapon owners must be registered as reservists with the well regulated, licensed state militia.
and when you make your protestations, I suggest you remember that the word "arms" extends to nukes and bio-weapons and smart bombs... is it illegal for the government to infringe on my right to keep and bear nukes? or is this amendment conceived during the days of muskets and cannons and perhaps in need of amending in its own right?-

It ensures states the right to have a militia to ensure their safety(from future tyranny). Then it reaffirms that the peoples right to bear arms may not be infringed(those who have no way to stand against tyranny are subjects). Since all rights belong to the people in the first place.

"Arms" being the primary weapon of the defense at the time. At this time that would equate to a self-loading rifle. -

Your definition of militia is not that of the founders which created the law. The Continental Congress purchased weapons for individuals to have in their homes! The practice of the states was to call out every able bodied man to serve in a militia and they brought their own weapons and ammo. They were not the National Guard which is what you are describing.

Second the Supreme Court and Most Costitiutional Lawyers agree that it is an INDIVIDUAL RIGHT like freedom of speech, religion, etc. In other words the Bill of Rights which each one is for individuals not groups or states.
And yes I am glad you said "arms" extends to all weapons. That is a literal interpretation of that word. But be as literal and accurate with the rest of the words and do not give a new definition to fit your wishes.
