I'm from America, and I DON'T Apologize »
Posted By Redneck 7 months ago in NewsThis past week, we witnessed Barack Obama during his "I'm sorry for being an American" tour. During remarks in France and Turkey, Obama showed little knowledge of facts and history as he tried to make Europe "like" him by apologizing for America being America... for taking the lead when no other countries will.

FTA: Fortunately, most Americans do not agree with Obama's perception of his own country. As Scott Rasmussen points out in his latest Rasmussen Reports poll, most American voters -- 54% -- say "it would be better for the world if Europe became more like the United States." Only 22% had the opposite view.

There are two real problems I have with Obama's comments. The first is that they are simply cheap political theater. A sitting president of the United States should not be taking shots at his predecessor, especially on foreign soil. Making yourself look good by making America look bad is not an action becoming a president of the United States. It is pathetic.-

The title of this story is key to why cons are obsessed with guns and bombs. Cons get some kind of sick sexual charge out of antagonizing and provoking others for no particular reason other than that they have empty, joyless lives. As a result right wingers are always living in fear that karma will strike them down.

You got it right ! Also, as long as we are paying taxes, we apologize to no one in any country. It is time to display our Power again just to edify who we are and who the USA will remain to be. Home Of The Brave! Negotiations with anyone is not in our vocabulary or our Bill of Rights and Constitution.
No matter whom anyone voted for, the entire country has become a victim of a "Bait & Switch Presidential Campaign."
GOD BLESS THE USA

I agree with Redneck. Any president of the United States of America should never try to put down this country for any reason. He should Love it or leave it, before he totally destories it from insideout!! People who voted for him is going to regret it. He truely is not an American, he got into office only because he ran on what he is, not because he was the best suited for the job or the most knowledgeble to run our country. My family has always been very patriotic people, we fought for every war that the USA needed them to. It is a slap in the face of all true Americans to have the president try degrade our country especially in the presents of foreign people. God Bless America!

FTA: Second, Obama's comments show that he has little understanding of history, Europe, or America. European leaders, and thus a portion of each country's citizenry, don't dislike us because we are dismissive or derisive. They dislike us because we are successful. While other nations bowed to the demands of dictators and aggressive nations, America stood up and said, "Not only will we fight for us, we will fight and die for you too." America, in a little over 200 years, has built the largest economy in the world. Other nations turn to us for advice, protection, guidance, you name it.

America is not afraid to lead. Leadership and success lead to resentment, and to have Obama apologize for this is disgraceful. I am an American, and I am proud of this country. I am proud that we fought for Great Britain, France, and other countries of the world during WWII. I am proud that when no other countries moved a muscle, America took the lead in throwing Iraq out of Kuwait. I am proud that American innovation has put men on the moon and lead to a medical system that is the envy of the world. Where do those America-bashing world leaders go when they are sick? One guess. I'm from America, and I DON'T apologize.-

In my experience, the best leaders do not cause those they lead to resent them. Most people look up to a great leader, even if he/she is from another country.
Success, when achieved correctly, will always evoke some jealousy, but minimal resentment, especially if the success is for the betterment of all.
Also, regarding your last sentence . . . is there really nothing America has ever done for which you feel an apology was in order? -

My God man...are you really as ignorant as you would have us believe? Iraq was in Kuwait because you idiots led them to believe that you would take no action. Perhaps you should look into slant drilling. People like yourself are ignorant enough to be dangerous since you are easily led around. -

The US has a lot of things to be proud of, but we also have room for improvement. And, we also have our share of mistakes that we should not be proud of. Many of these mistakes were calculated, and the leaders knew they were mistakes when these actions were taken.
Reply
Are you proud that we have the poorest medical system of any nation in the same class?
Are you proud that we spend more on foreign aide, (by far) than we spend on our own people?
Are you proud that we still have open borders and a lack of enforcement of immigration laws?
Are you proud of the factory closings that have taken place over the last 20 years, the bank failings over the last year, the foreclosures over the last year?
There's nothing wrong with pride, but there is always room for improvement!

FTA: * Comment: "It's always harder to forge true partnerships and sturdy alliances than to act alone. ... In America, there's a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world. Instead of ... seeking to partner with you ... there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive."
Reply
* Translation: Where do I even start? What is NATO? Isn't that a "true partnership?" What about all the other treaties, trade agreements, economic collaborations, etc.? Aren't these true partnerships? Of course they are. But it's so much easier for Obama to label himself the good guy and his country the bad guy. He's seeking to be liked in Europe by bad-mouthing the country he represents. When he talks about "arrogance," this, of course, is another swipe at George W. Bush and the image that liberals sought to spread. Again, I challenge Obama to actually list where America has been arrogant, dismissive and derisive. We are talking about world politics, not talking points! You can't just throw out lines like that about the greatest country in the world! (Yikes, being arrogant.) If that is how he feels, then he needs to be specific and put out a list.-

Someone has to do it and because you don't have the balls to admit being wrong from time to time or to admit to Bush's horrific failures and insults, I guess it's up to him.
"He is the President of the United States for pete's sake. He should be proud to be from America, should lift up our country, say what is good about it, be positive, look to a bright future and project that hope for us and the entire world."
His name is Obama, not Pollyanna. He IS lifting up our country. Out of the craphole BushCo left us in. He is positive, saying what is wonderful about our country but admitting that there are things that need to be improved. Which means he is, unlike you, neither stupid or in denial about the state of the nation.
"All he did was bash this country."
Obviously all you did was listen to clips from Faux news or some other such spew outlet. -

Obama's not only president but an exceedingly POPULAR one, and why? Because after 8 years of Fredo Bush and his merry band of sociopaths, the country has finally figured out what the rightwing nutballs have to offer this country - zilch. Look for Obama for (at least) another 4 years...and then another Democrat. the GOP is finished.

Obama has an excellent grasp of American History, which is refreshing. It's great that he does not snub Europe and the rest of the world, as other Presidents have done with disastrous results. Our world is becoming more and more interconnected, so for sure USA cannot live in a dream world. Let's not forget that, without Europe, we may not have even survived the Revolutionary War to become the brave, tough, spirited, imaginiative people that we are.

Most of you redneck, knuckle-draggin', right wing, hawkish types who think no one should ever apologize, especially of course if they believe they are right and the guys wearing the "white hats", are usually also church going, God fearing, religious types. EVER HEARD, "PRIDE GOETH BEFORE A FALL" or "TURN THE OTHER CHEEK"? IDIOTS! ShutUp! You're the ones who don't know anything. There is NO major super power down thru the ages, from Darius of Babylonia and the Pharoahs to the USA, USSR and Red China who don't owe somebody an apology somewhere. How do you think they got to be Superpowers? By crushing everything in their way, that's how. The end result doesn't justify the means; ask Native Americans. Just examine the state of the world today and ask yourselves how're we doin' by the old "business as usual" model? Not so great, right? As a matter of fact most up and coming small countries also have had a lot to apologize for, a few examples are Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Romania, Macedonia, Rwanda, Congo, Spain, Germany, Greece, Turkey and most of the Middle East... and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Do you all think it's OK to commit or support genocide if it advances a good end, like Democracy? Then read our own Constitution. Or better yet, just go out into your front yards and haul off those rusting junk pickup trucks that've been sitting in front of your trailer homes for the last two generations and stay out of socio-political discussions that are WAYYYY above your IQs.

And BTW: If anyone thinks the world is not appreciative of President Obama's demeanor, or that it is not a good approach, then you should get your first passport, get off the block you were born on, and do some foreign traveling. People abroad mostly love us now, and that hasn't been true for awhile. When traveling, it's a good feeling to be welcomed.
