I dont know about using the terms 'Socialism' and 'Gun Bans' as incitement for violence, but the term "armed insurgence' certainly does.
The right wing rhetoric is starting to look and sound a lot like the Taliban.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 3) (recursion depth : 1) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Neocon Barbara Bachman is called for an armed uprising on national television.
Sean Hannity agreed.
Rush Limbaugh used to read the violent Turner Diaries on his show- until fellow Turner Diary reader Timothy McVeigh acted on it.
Look and listen to any ultra-con media and you will hear rumblings about armed rebellion.
Hell, Neocon congressman Pete Sessions said the Conservatives should pattern themselves after the Taliban and be "insurrectionists."

You're pretty flip about people dying aren't you, son?
Richard Powplawski just killed 3 police officers because he "was afraid of "the Obama gun ban that's on the way."
The fool listened and believed the numerous right-wing media outlets shrieking about "gun control" and how someone is going to take away their basement full of guns and that the sky is falling.
When one of these neo-nutcases kills your mom or kid or wife (on purpose or just with a stray bullet) will it be funny to you?
This sh*t is no joke.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 8) (recursion depth : 6) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

So you won't care if someone (or many people) who all just happen to be hyper-conservative, plants ideas in the heads of violent anti-government (often racist, sexist or fascist) nuts and "urges them to act" or "eggs them on?"
In 1996 I was eating lunch in a Red Robin in Colorado with a lot of children around and there were three folks who had just been attending the guns show down the street and were talking. A young couple was starting to look a little troubled by the guy they must have met there who kept talking about "killing cops" and how great Reagan was and getting louder and turning red. Remember when police around the country tried to get a ban on hollow point/dumdum/'cop-killer" bullets but the NRA made sure that didn't happen? People forget that before 9-11 there was a lot of talk from the extreme right about perpetrating violence on police.
Now it's starting up again.
And it liberals pushin' it sonny.
It's (neo)Cons.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 11) (recursion depth : 9) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

"An incident in Penn that was as linked to stress over the economy as anything else..."
Powplawski's mother called the cops to evict him from her home. She hid in the basement when he started killing the cops because he thought they were going to take his guns away.
He had permits.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 13) (recursion depth : 11) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

It seems you are dismissing this incident as a simple matter of "stress", which could apply to any owner of assault weapons.

Oh you got me on the hairsplitting. Soft point and hollow points are not the same. Only very similar.
The Black Talon bullet is a jacketed hollow-point bullet with perforations designed to expand sharp edges upon impact.[1]
...and eventually the Talons became to be known by the moniker "cop-killer" bullets.[7]
To be most correct, the term "Dum Dum Bullet" refers only to soft point bullets, not to hollow points, though it is very common for it to be mistakenly used this way.
-wikipedia
They used to call the hollowpoint bullet a dum dum rd aka the cop killer bullet.

Crespi,
I would just like to inform you of the fact that only a complete retard would use any kind of ammo other than hollow points. Any cop will tell you this. Reason being that if you have to fire your weapon in self defense and accidentally kill a by stander you get off because the bullet was fired with "Good Intent". However, if you are using 165 grain FMj rounds and the bullet goes through the perp and kills a by stander you are guilty of negligence because you used ammo that was capable of going through a body.
Figured I'd share that with ya.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 12) (recursion depth : 10) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Originally, police rounds didn't have as much power to go through a body like they do now, since the weapons "designers" have boosted the power and penetration capacity so greatly.
But sadly, you are right that it has come to this.
But I like your idea of "Retard With A Gun."

sonofreason - It seems quite obvious that stress caused by the Bush recession played a factor in this deranged person's mind.
However, people react to stress in different ways. Some may go into a depression and withdraw from society. Some commit suicide. Some become galvanized into action. Some lash out at their spouses or children.
Therefore, it seems equally obvious that this Poplawski fellow responded to his irrational fears caused by the paranoid warnings of the gun-rights movement.
Of all the choices of behavior, he picked this SPECIFIC ONE - to kill policemen he thought were coming to take his guns away.
The irresponsible and incendiary claims of the gun lobby about guns being taken away caused Poplawski to react by killing instead of reacting in another mode of behavior.
Therefore, no matter how you evade, dodge, and deny it, the rabid right does have a deep culpability in causing this tragedy.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 11) (recursion depth : 9) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

crespi - When comprehension and context is included with the actual interview done by Bachmann, it is easily understood that she said she wants to arm Minnesotans with knowledge about the budget and, in particular, cap and trade.

Listen to the whole interview. It will give you the context in which she spoke. It involved knowledge. You really should listen to it.
Right before she said "armed and dangerous" she was talking about educating the people of Minnesota about the budget and cap and trade.

Yup, she did. But language counts, no matter what the context. Especially when similar violent metaphors are repeated again and again.
The far-right wing of the Republican party has always relied heavily on the simple-mindedness of the majority of its followers--they don't hear context or metaphor--they hear a call to arms.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 9) (recursion depth : 7) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Of course you would buy that story, Beau7890, because it was sold to you. If you are really interested in finding out more about the newspaper that printed the article, The Scranton Times, please research the long, partisan history of the family that owns them - the Lynett family. Also, the editor who allowed this to be published in his paper - Beupre is his name, I think - was fired from his previous job for partisan misreporting. And the reporter was a sports reporter who was the ONLY PERSON IN THE CROWD WHO HEARD THE WORDS and his name is David Singleton. Don't you find it odd that the secret service interviewed as many people as they could who were standing in the immediate area and the only one who heard the words was the reporter? The reporter must have hyper sensitive hearing, huh?
I hope you got a receipt for that purchase you made.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 15) (recursion depth : 13) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

With Bachmann's constituency, her past and recent remarks, and the double meaning of the "armed and dangerous" phrase, it is not unreasonable to read it both ways. It was a poor choice of words on her part as are most of her words poorly chosen.

My point was that the argument can be made that she meant "armed" with knowledge in the full context of what she said. However, given her record of fiery rhetoric more people would take it as "armed" with weapons. Thus in the broader context of all of her public rants the "armed" with weapons is a more likely interpretation.
