Though I may disagree with many liberal stances, on the legalization of marijuana I stand four-square with you. For it is a CONSERVATIVE position endorsed by many conservative people and spokesmen. Its legalization is LONG OVERDUE. This is one truly outstanding thing President Obama could do for our nation, IMMEDIATELY, through his powers as Chief Executive; call off this WAR on the AMERICAN PEOPLE! -

Lets be real.....this is something that will never happen. If you are looking for a break-through on this issue, you must first look to decriminalize but that is not realistic either. There is way too much money made by our government because it is illegal for this to ever change.

Legalization would save multi-billions of dollars. The court systems and jails would be reduced by 90% (I believe that is the figure) and tax revenues could be realized from its sale just like alcohol and tobacco.

It is being legalized by many states as we speak just as California has-

here's a CNN page that shows how much each state cold potentially make if marijuana was legal:

www.money.cnn.com/2005/06/07/commentary/wastler/wa...
scroll down and click on: "How much pot money would each state get? Click here."
so, we're talking about A LOT of money here.
its also a way to stop the overcrowding in our jail system.
so, beyond all the money we would actually make we would also save A LOT of money by not having these small time, non-violent offenders filling our prisons. -

The cable news channels claim that 60% of the profits going to violent Mexican drug cartels (which are establishing themselves in American cities) come from marijuana.

Legalize, and the money goes to the American citizen down the street who grows in in his basement. No more cartel money.
Most people would be happy with a REASONABLE growers or sellers fee which would stimulate this sagging economy. -

I don't want pot legalized, just decriminalized. For both possession and manufacture (growing). If you let the government in they will pass it on to big business and then what ? Grow your own and eliminate a lot of present headaches and potential ones also..Simple.

I think marijuana should be legalized and handled like alcohol. Sell it, tax it, and do away with making it such an exciting way to rebel and break the law. Eliminate the drug pusher. Use the money to dig us out of this financial mess. FUND education and medical services for EVERYONE. Put the drug Czars and warlords out of business! Reinstate medical facilities for the emotionally and mentally impaired with some of that money. Reagan closed the mental health facilities. Reopen them! There are a lot of homeless people that should be in mental facilities. Those are my thoughts.

Everybody here is only talking about the smoke part of one of the most useful plants on earth. Tho that is the fun part, there are many uses for the plant. Paper & fabric from plant fibers to cooking & heating oil from the seeds, to bio-fuel from the rest of the plant. That's just the products, imagine the jobs it would create; In America! We could re-open textile mills, open seed presses & refiners, and create many jobs just growing it. LEGALIZATION = BAILOUT FOR AMERICA

If marijuana is legalized, perhaps the thrill of the illegality of it will force it to lose its appeal and use will decrease. http://www.mindreign.com/en/mindshare/Health-and-S... has some interesting ideas on the subject....
