5 Reasons to Believe that the Contents Written in the Bible are Authentic »

Less than a century ago, critics of the Holy Bible raised hundreds of historical errors of the Book. One of the most vicious attacks on the historical accuracy of the Holy Bible is the theory advanced that writing was not yet existent during the time of Moses and therefore, there was no way that the events in the Book of Genesis were recorded.

      Funnyboyz:

Thanks for the article and the invite.

I would add this to it.

      2 Peter 3:1-9

      God's Promise is Not Slack

3 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

There are some who continue to mock God and His way. This is a warning to them from Peter.

FTA-With the coming of archaeology, each spade dug in the ruins of biblical cities has unearthed records that coincided exactly with biblical accounts.
        I believe.

Well spoken, as from a well that is not null and void...we see the same light that made man...he who is actually from and goes to. Our language is something many miss...it unfolds from within, and we can even share this event...just as the hebrew practiced a seperation unto the gospell, we may too.
Application at this very moment requires we remove the demons from the men that carry the word in their vessel, their templed head...and in a free spirit, do it themselves. It is hard for some to see just what worship does, untill you warn what passing a dollar from hand to hand actually does...it blinds you...sometimes pulled open, sometimes fully closed...peeking from somewhere behind.
I gain strenth, just knowing there is a next generation...in this genesis up and down, each inning since the beginning...to be the one from and to. Truthfully.
At the least...we are not beggers...the ones that control the US are...at this very moment! And very the moment...verlily we say...a seperation unto the truthfull gospell...Amen begins men to be Omen...we then walk a perfect quest revieling the twist of the Sun...Time. then U center a full cup as unction. vector from within the wisdom...it's signiture(symbolic of the cross) yields the now new Z. Known alpha and omega...plus us the alphabet in the here-after. p through z, I gave a seperation unto...you.

This article is extremely difficult to understand. I mean, I get the point about some archeology "proving" certain parts of the Bible, but the article is so poorly written that I can't make heads or tails of it.

          1. What are the five reasons?
          2. Archeology has confirmed that writing existed at the time of Moses, but I know of no reputable archeologist who suggested that it didn't. History, by definition, is written.
          3. There are confirmations of certain things in the Bible from sources other than the Bible, but they generally do not "exactly" match the record in the Bible. For instance, there is a Sumerian mythological record of a great flood, but Noah is not mentioned.
          4. The Dead Sea Scrolls are the oldest records of the written Bible now extant, but they do not confirm that the events in the Bible actually occurred. They are simply the oldest written versions that we have.

There are events in the Bible that are historical events, but that does not mean that the Bible is "true" or even accurate.

I may have missed something, but I don't understand why the title says: "5 reasons to believe..." I could see only one reason in the article: It claims that archeology supports the existence of some of the biblical places.

That may be so, but it's irrelevant. Even if archeologist found every single place mentioned in the Bible, it still wouldn't make it the word of God. All it would do is make it a somewhat accurate historical record written by men. It wouldn't tell us what Moses said to his people, and even less where Moses got the message from.

From the perspective of history, it's important whether the Bible describes myths or events, but from the perspective of faith, the crucial link is to God, and archeology will never unearth that.

This is the usual kind of "straw-man" argument used to keep the gullible dumb and docile and in thrall to pseudo-christian sects that got their start about 140 years ago. The real arguements against "literal" interpretation of the bible are much more serious: (a) the bible is inconsistent with itself (starting with genesis), and (b) "literal" interpretation changes continuously depending on who is doing the interpretation (see below).

Perhaps this kind of article is a good opportunity to ask who profits from keeping segments of the American population in sects that goosestep along behind things like military imperialism?

Crackpot Christianity and America's Current Moral Degeneration

...Although he might not agree with my use of the term "Crackpot Christians," Kevin Phillips is certainly correct when he claims that "the radical side of U.S. religion has embraced cultural antimodernism, war hawkishness, Armageddon prophecy, and in the case of conservative fundamentalists, a demand for government by literal biblical interpretation." [American Theocracy, p. 100]

... Crackpot Christians have a long history of moral degeneracy. Simply look back to America's Civil War and you'll find southern clergymen - clergymen! -- citing verses from the Bible (e.g., Exodus 20-21, Matthew 10:14 and Ephesians 6:5-6) to justify slavery. According to Martin E. Marty (perhaps, our foremost authority on religion in America), "The South especially cherished the most literal readings [of the Bible], because on these terms it could find biblical passages in support of slavery." [Pilgrims in Their Own Land: 500 Years of Religion in America, pp. 302-303]

"Scripture, the Confederate clergy advised, even justified secession." [Phillips, American Theocracy, p. 144] And even after Union forces delivered God's just retribution (speaking in Crackpot Christian terms) for the South's evil ways, southern clergymen soon were abetting their perpetuation -- which subsequently spread into America's southern Midwest and across America's Southwest -- by fostering the self-deception of "redemption."

The MAIN reason to believe the contents written in the Bible are authentic, is becaue the Quran says it's a "confirmation and reminder of that which went before it"(the Bible). That a Christian has "no ground to stand upon unless he stand firm upon the Injil(Gospel)". That the Torah (in the Old Testament), is LIKE the Quran. Not only is the Torah LIKE the Quran, but is "both guidance and light"...and, remember, the Quran says, "if you are in doubt (about the Quran), bring another from Allah LIKE it" (and, the Torah is LIKE the Quran). Also, the Quran says that IF a Muhammadan is in DOUBT about the Quran, he should go to those who have read the scriptures (The Bible), that was before it". And, on TOP of that, the Torah, the Zahbor (Psalms) and the Injil (Gospel), are "Allah's word", and, according to Quran 6:115, 6:34, 10:64 AND 16:101, Allah's word can't be changed (i.e. corrupted). Of course there IS Quran 2:106 (about abrogation), so, maybe Allah's word CAN be changed? Kind of a contradiction, but, oh well.

I believe in God, however i have common sense enough to know that the Bible has, in some ways, been tampered with, but it's all Christians have to use as a guideline.

Excellent article. And I might remind someone in this thread that Abraham was not only the father of the Hebrew line but also he was the father if Ishmael who was the link thru Abraham to Islam.

I think you will find in the Bible that when Sarah died that both Issac and Ishmael helped Abraham build her burial place in the caves that Abraham bought. And I believe that both helped Abraham re-build the Kaaba in Saudi Arabia.

The city of Ur was mentioned also. As I recall the story was treated as untrue until a ziggarut was discovered containing a cornerstone dedicating the city of Ur to Abraham. Subsequent to that other discoveries have been made to add to the validity of Ur.

If it wasn't for the Roman Emperor in 400 AD making Christianity the official state religion, punishible by DEATH, nobody would give a crap about the jewish fairytales in the King James rewritten bible.

Whether you think the bible is relevant or not, it doesn't change the FACT that there is NO GOD, no demi-god, no son of god, no angels, demons, devil, afterlife, no soul, no spirits, no heaven, no hell.

Its all a steaming pile of liquid crap, invented by con men and kings to control the population of ignorant morons. Keeps them in line to be fleeced and sent to die for the King.

Its real simple, there is no afterlife, no God. Only thousands of gods invented by con men and kings. The bible was concieved when the earth was flat and infant mortality was 75%, and bacteria was unknown.

If you think there is any relevance in the bible, you are a complete moron, brainwashed by childhood emotions, reinforced by conmen, and you are incapable of objective thought.

Anti. Since you don't believe in a God, do you believe in morality and if so why? Do you believe in ethical behavior and if so why?

Do you think there was an Abraham, an Issac, an Ishmael?

Was there such a being as Jesus?

Do you think the Ten Commandments are appropriate for mankind and if not, why not?
