Posted By IsraGeek 7 months, 3 weeks ago in Science & TechnologyResearchers from Tel Aviv University have found a strong correlation between the wind speeds and lightning frequency of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones and conclude that the strength of a hurricane can be predicted in advance based on that.

Really interesting and potentially life saving research.I would like to understand,what mechanism,the researchers think forms this correlation.There is a truth in the last guys quote, “heavy on statistics and weak on the physical linkages between lightning and hurricanes."Though of course I would need to read the whole article.Good story,I will look at "Nature Geoscience's"website and try to investigate further.Thanks for sharing
