The German press estimates this was wrong, and advocates a policy which adapts President Sarkozy's position. In the eyes of President Obama, there is no old nor new Europe, there is only just Europe. In any case, this is the way he called it during his tour of the Old Continent. Europeans liked these comments very much, especially coming from him, and took them as added proof that the new head of state had completely broken with the policies of the Bush administration. This flattery, nonetheless, is as far removed from the truth as saying that America invented the automobile.*
