Rush Limbaugh's 10 Dumbest Remarks »
Posted By tehranchik 7 months, 2 weeks ago in Political NewsJust a few teasers:
1. “There is no conclusive proof that nicotine’s addictive... And the same thing with cigarettes causing emphysema, lung cancer, heart disease.”
2. “Columbus saved the Indians from themselves.”
3. "He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act... This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting."
4. “[African Americans] are twelve percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”
5. “Kurt Cobain was, ladies and gentlemen, a worthless shred of human debris.”
6. “Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream.”

Ofcourse not. In his own egotistical dellusional mind, everything he says is ultterly brilliant. To the mindless zombie fans he is brilliant. He has to reinsure them everytime he goes on air that they are smarter for listening to him. What kind of people need that? You here all the time that Rush has great ratings and that means that the people that listen to him are the majority. If that is the majority of Americans, it is no wonder why this country is so messed up.

I wonder if the left ever thinks that some of the things they spout are worse than this. Some of them are true. Why should we concern ourselves with what the world thinks of what we are dong in the US. Do you get worried about what others think about whatyou do in your house? Silly libs. Just have to blow off hot air.

What I chose to do in my house is not broadcast over the airwaves and has no influence on how this country is run. I don't have an audience following my every move- waiting with baited breath for my next wonderful sentence.

7. “We are a growing country and everybody needs energy! We're not going to stay the United States if we start reducing energy usage. Conservation is not the answer.”
Reply
8. To a black caller: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”
9. On torture at Abu Ghraib: “This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation. And we're going to ruin people's lives over it, and we're going to hamper our military effort, and then we are going to really hammer them because they had a good time. You know, these people are being fired at every day. I'm talking about people having a good time, these people—you ever heard of emotional release? You ever heard of need to blow some team off?”
10. “Screw the world. Do you really think we ought to govern ourselves based on what the world thinks of us?” -

I used to lsten to Rush just waiting for the day that the show would get down to maybe a serious level of discussion on any topic, one day he started off talking about to much government and I thought well thats something that I agree with so I thought todays the day so I continued to listen and it just went from bad to worse so I turned him off and because I'm a little bit stubborn I have not turned him on again. The one thing that Rush does believe in is the "Right To Incite" and he has made a fine art of it he manages to cover all the bases every time. He claims to have the largest listening audience on radio and a great number of those must be from liberal side of the spectrum. For Gods sake do yourselves a favor and just turn him off, I did and the doctor said that there seems to have been an improvement in my blood pressure since last fall, go figure eh!

Eh! indeed CR. I've listened a few times for short periods (can't endure any more). I've found the show to be rambling, poorly organized, filled with ego, and generally not very good. In the past, i've exchanged e-mails with David Limbaugh, Rush's brother, on a few topics. He's articulate, coherent, and (through e-mail anyway) pretty affable. Maybe Rush is that way too in person. But a radio pro he is not.

I really don't see that comment as being stupid. Its a little over the top saying "screw the world" but I agree we shouldn't be making our decisions based on whether or not its going to hurt someone's feelings. Of course we have to keep our friends happy and such, but in the end we need to do whats best for us. As selfish as it seems, we would still be part of the British Empire if it were any different.
As for the other 9, ya Rush is extremely ignorant. I don't understand why anyone would listen to him for information.-

It is VERY IMPORTANT what the world thinks of us! Just look how Bush screwed it up with the same attitude as Rush. No diplomacy, just bully tactics. Look where that got us! We are part of the world whether you like it or not. Bush isolated us and it set us back in the eyes of the rest of the world to the point we may never be able to recover.
Reply
We NEED the rest of the world to assist in their regions with things that are important to us. Look how Obama was treated at the G20! That's pure carryover from the last administration. Maybe in two or three years Obama can regain some capital from the rest of the world. I hope so.
Under Bush we truly were the UGLY AMERICANS. It takes a long time to regain someone's confidence and respect when you call 'em names and continue to screw 'em over!
Bush needs to go to jail for destroying a once great nation! -

My first reaction upon reading this litany of idiotic, thoughtless, racist comments was laughter.

But then I realized I was also sad and frightened. Sad that any reasonably intelligent American living today could think in such ugly and hateful ways. Frightened that a dangerous person like Limbaugh could gain such a prominent and influential place in the political life of our beautiful republic.
Much as the rabid right tries to pin the crimes and hate of the radical left on the entire liberal movement, we in the mainstream, moderate left renounce and abhor radicalism of the left.
Unfortunately, it seems that many in the conservative and neoconservative movement do NOT reject the extreme policies and statements of the radical right. On the contrary, it seems like a sizable number of the Republicans agree with and cheer on these rabble-rousing, radical extremists. Witness how much rattention and money people like Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, O'Reilly, Cheney, Bush, etc get. -

From all of this we may learn that Rush doesn't like Dems. We may even do some hard thinking and find out that he doesn't like "liberals" (whatever they are). But remember that his opinion is worth exactly what yours is, no more, no less.

Personally, I don't listen to his show--maybe four 5-minute stretches over the years. Don't really try to avoid it; just don't happen to be listening to the radio when he's on. When I do pick him up, I can handle a max of about 5 minutes before the ego and the generally disorganized presentation drive me away. Because of his poor on-air performance, I have a hard time trying to figure out what point he wants to make.
I live in the outlying suburban fringes of St. Louis. The station that Rush is on is an old established one that has a large stable of air "personalities" that do talk radio very, very well. Rush's show is sandwiched between two of the better ones. Compared to them, he sounds like a fourteen year-old who thinks he might want to try radio some day and is trying to impress his girlfriend. I know that he claims a very large audience. All I can figure is that they aren't listening because the show is well presented or organized.
Put his politics aside, and he isn't worth the effort to write about. -
