Maybe I was watching the wrong video or something but I didn't hear anyone "bet" against Obama. They asked why Obama wasn't discussing the situation and why he hasn't done anything to stop the pirate attacks.

If people should be locked up for asking questions, then you might as well call your self a fascist. And that's way worse than anything Fox NEws has done.

  There was definitely an assumption that Obama was either doing nothing or doing the wrong thing and that the situation was going to end in failure, or at least a Carter-esque dragged-out hostage ordeal lasting weeks or months.
  
  They were setting themselves up for a big 'I told you so' that, happily, never came.

  No they didn't use the word bet, but I'll bet they were all hoping that the Obama Administration would somehow fail to effectively resuce the captain. It cetainly appeared to me that they could hardly contain their glee at the possiblity that President Obama would get blamed for doing nothing.........
  
  In reality it is just another example of the lack of morals in the pseudo-conservative movement where nothing is as important as denigrating the opposition. They hope he fails in everything apparently. I hope that additude comes back and bites them in the butt in 2010. Can you say fillabuster proof Senate supermjority. Hahhahaha.

      And I'll bet they aren't as despicable as liberals who pushed like hell to turn victory into defeat in Iraq.
      
      Awe, are you still sore that Congress forced the Bush Administration to change the strategy in Iraq because the previous one, (you know the "stay the course") that created the Civil war there that cost the lives of over 4000 American soldiers and countless Iraqis was a failure?

      We already have some destroyers with attack helicopters there. I think we need a larger show of force such as a carrier group.

      Thats right, i forgot, the pirate seizures didnt start until obama was elected, there was not one single incident of pirate attacks while bush was in office, was there?

        2: Nov 15 Second tanker hijacked.
        
        3: Nov 14 Heavily armed pirates in two speedboats chase and fire upon a container ship. Master increases speed, takes evasive action and crew activate fire hoses. Pirates abort attack.
        
        4: Nov 14 Armed pirates in three small speedboats approach a chemical tanker. Master contacts coalition warship and takes evasive action. The pirates fail to board the vessel.
        
        5: Nov 13 Six pirates in a speedboat approach a bulk carrier and order the ship to stop but the master continues with evasive manoeuvres. The pirates fire upon the ship with grenades and automatic weapons. Master calls a coalition warship, asking for immediate assistance. Warship responds, comes to the location in 15 minutes and chases away the pirate boat.
        
        6: Nov 13 Pirates with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades chase and fire upon a container ship. The vessel increases speed and takes evasive action. The pirate boat comes alongside on port side, but fail to board their target. Vessel continues to her destination port.
        
        7: Nov 12 Armed pirates in two speedboats chase a tanker, which takes evasive action and escapes.
        
        8: Nov 12 Chemical tanker is hijacked.
        
        9: Nov 11 Two speedboats with three to four armed pirates in each chase a bulk carrier. Evasive manoeuvres are made and warship called. A naval helicopter arrives and interrupts the speedboats. Pirates abort attack.
        
        10: Nov 10 Two speedboats approach a refrigerated cargo ship. The pirates open fire. The ship takes evasive action. Later the speedboats abort the attempt.
        
        11: Nov 10 Pirates board and hijack a chemical tanker with 23 crewmembers aboard. The crew are then taken hostage. The pirates begin sailing the tanker to an undisclosed location in Somalia.

        It's quite obvious that JEBU and "friends" lack any integrity or objectivity in their hatred for Obama. They seek to condemn him any way they can regardless of truth or facts.
        
        When they get caught in their lies and deceptions they just move on to the next one. They like to sling all the sh!t they can onto the wall and hope something sticks.
        
        What these misfits are accomplsihing is what the Democrats could not do alone; they are actually helping the country move away from the far right, which is good.

        Spade - the pirates have been attacking ships with regularity since 2005 -- this is very easy to validate - just check out Somali pirate chronology on Wikipedial.
        The US navy has engaged them before you will see.

      libs - The US Navy has come out and said they can not patrol the entire Indian Ocean to interdict against the pirates. That is NOT their job. Their job is to fight battles, launch missiles, support land operations.
      
      WE ARE NOT THE POLICEMAN OF THE WORLD.
      
      Moreover, this is an assymetrical war - exactly analogous to traditional massive troop masses trying to fight a guerrilla war in a jungle.
      
      You cannot fight lots of tiny, mobile boats with massive, bulky, over-armed ships of war.
      
      And who is going to pay for our expensive navy ships to escort each and every freighter or convoy sailing across the Indian Ocean? Which country's ships do we protect and which do we leave alone?
      
      God! We simply do not have enough ships to do so. Do you realize how massive the Indian Ocean is? Do you realize how much shipping goes thru the Indian Ocean? Merchandise from Europe, Africa, the Mideast, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, China, Indonesia, Australia crisscross the Indian Ocean daily, not to ignore the all important oil tankers.
      
      And how do we correct the fish poaching that many foreign nations commit off the coast of Somalia that is causing a food shortage in Somalia? How do we stop the toxic waste dumping that has angered the coastal inhabitants of Somalia?
      
      You see, the solution again is not war and guns and killing. It is diplomacy and economic aid. We remove the causes of poverty. We help the Somalis preserve their ocean food supply. We make it profitable for the Somalis to engage in legal trade, fishing, farming, etc., so that they will no longer be reliant on warlords or the al Qaeda for their well being. We negotiate with foreign countries who dump their waste off Somalia.
      
      That is how to stop piracy over the long haul.
