"The Web is buzzing with information about how to throw an anti-Obama Taxpayer Tea Party, something organizers hope will be held today from Santa Monica to South Carolina. But no need to burn up your bandwidth reading complicated instructions. Here's a simpler recipe:"
Hey I just had to submit this one.
Ya know where was all the outrage when Bush raped the country with his two wars while instituting tax cuts for the very wealthy ?

The Tea Party movement, more than anything else, is a rather garish display of a Republican right that seems to have lost not only the national elections but also any semblance of political bearings. Staying on this course, the GOP risks -- in the words of one pundit -- becoming "the Talk Radio Republican Party."
Better put that kettle on, Marge. It's going to be a long and bizarre four years.
Hey what can one say. The party with no clue has boiled itself dry. LOL-

But, but, but.......these are NOT Republican protests, CBGP.
Reply
Its a 'grassroots' movement of disenfranchised Americans in general.
Despite the fact that most Americans still support the president and his policies.
This IS going to be a long and bizzare four years if the only Republican strategy is grandstanding opposition on the basis of ideology only.
But then again, that will surely be the demise of what is left of the splintered GOP as we know it. -

Its the attempt at putting it as a grass roots movement. We've seen that with Endo and company posting about the "growing numbers" who are dissatisfied despite approval ratings for Obama of over 60%. The right wing has lost it and instead of changing continue to cling to a failed ideology.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
A grievance in this case is the disapproval of something our bureaucrats are doing to our livelihoods - taxing us into ECONOMIC PARITY. Which means the lowest common denominator.

The GOP hasn't accepted yet that they lost the last two elections and will soon have Al Franken to deal with too (not seat due to sore losers).
Hopefully, this unraveling of the GOP will translate in to losses in upcoming elections. -

As a VERY dedicated tea-drinker, long-time frequenter of tea-houses, domestically currently stocking at least 30 different types of loose tea, I feel positively T-d off that the nattering nabobs are trespassing on such sacred ground.
Of course if they're drinking tea-bag tea good luck to them.
That's barely tea - most of the colour is dye of the worst kind.
To be honest I'd rather see them act like real revolutionaries and throw tea into the ocean - again as long as they stick with the tea bag sh**.. Whatever.. They'll get tired of it pretty soon. -

"Where was all the outrage when Bush raped the country with his two wars while instituting tax cuts for the very wealthy?"
Reply
As we all know, there was none. Bush could do no wrong, in spite of the fact that he lied and he violated federal law and the constitution and he DOUBLED the national debt.
The more apt irony is that there are TAX CUTS in the 2009 stimulus bill.
It is beyond all understanding that there are any people out there that swallow whole the junk spewed from the right-wingers, especially when the truth is so easily accessible. -

Writing in Fortune magazine, conservative policy analyst Bruce Bartlett, who has a long anti-tax history, says: "The irony of these protests is that federal revenues as a share of the gross domestic product will be lower this year than any year since 1950. ... The truth is that the U.S. is a relatively low-tax country no matter how you slice the data."

Saddly most of you have apparently not really heard about these protests. Many involved are not republicans. Democrats, independents, fiscal conservatives, and others are involved. But I guess without any reporting of an event that may involve over 100,000 people would be too much for your news sources :/ The protest in my city last month had thousands and was essentially ignored. When about 500 protested Bush and the war, it made national news. I wonder if there could be some sort of bias... Nahhhhh.

I believe the emphaisis here isnt that its NOT ok to protest, but it appears they not only want to protest that their gravy train is being cut off but make it seem that everyone is with them in saying their gravy train being cut off,. Broadcasting it as nonpartisan and grass roots is a lie. These "protests" are backed by right wing lobbyists, supported by Faux news (Which by the way is still trumpeting the Natalee Hollaway story) and attended by ONLY Repu8blican backed speakers, Altho Im not quite so sure they wanted the book burner and the "its all marketing" people highlighted.

My news sources say it differs from place to place. One place has a mix of parties, another place is plainly angry Republicans, another place is mostly Ron Paul people (who are essentially Republicans), another place is composed of the same people who protest ANY taxes, another place has a few Democrats and a lot of angry conservatives.

The numbers, though, are fairly small.
"When about 500 protested Bush and the war"
Funny. I seem to remember plenty of protests that scaled in the thousands if not tens of thousands. Plus they were protesting a WAR! Where good American soldiers got killed for Bush's folly. They weren't protesting about wanting to be able to be greedy, pig-hungry, money-focused Mammonites.-

I gave a specific example of 2 protests in the same city where one that was approximately 5-10 times larger was not covered. Unless you are suggesting that the news sources made the value judgement that the war was wrong so they felt a need to cover that protest, while they made the value judgement that the current protests are "wrong" and so failed to cover them? I guess I could go with that interpretation if you would like to use that... -

The original tea party had to do with taxation without representation. Now exactly why are these tea parties protesting? The fiscal debt? Where were you during the Bush years? Stimulus package? Where were you on Bush's first stimulus program? Taxing the wealthy 3% more and giving tax cuts to the rest of our nation? Those are the policy issues so ... or is it just their dislike for our democratically elected multi-racial president?

Hmmmmm. You mean when many disagreed with much of what Bush and co did? The Republicans voted against the first version of Pelosi/Bush's stimulus... Many of the people at these rallys were talking all through the Bush years about wasteful government spending and earmarks... Still others think that the federal government has certain responsibilities that it is required to perform and funding them is reasonable (military, police, roads, etc). On the other hand, they feel that the current "let's throw money at our favorite groups" is irresponsible. It is quite possible to think that spending on X activity is OK, but spending on Y is not without being hypocricital. The only way this would be hypocritical would be if there are no restrictions on how much or what activities the federal government can and should spend money... That seems like a hard argument to make with a straight face...
Reply
And I know you like throwing our your racism, but I have not heard anyone on the right talk negatively about Obama because of his race. I hear it all the time from the left "The right just hates Obama cause he's black". Then their media outlets spout this as news... Sure, there are fringes that care, but I have heard FAR more from the left than from the right about Obama's race...

I was just talking to my neighbor who was near our town square today and according to her she saw about half dozen people in the square protesting. She said two protesters was holding signs questioning Obama's birth place and another one was shouting 'Obama Is A Muslim' while holding a banner that had a X'd out picture of what she thought was Katie Couric on it of all things.

It doesn't sound like to me that these people were protesting TAXES as much as they were just protesting against President Obama in general. Some of the news reporting from CNN around the country seems to be pointing this out as well. -

There will always be those that take the wrong message to the streets. So if you want to form your opinion based on those few folks and miss the real meaning of what the Tea Parties are really about, then go ahead and disillusion yourselves.
Reply
Across our nation, thousands of Americans are participating in taxpayer tea parties today for one simple reason: overtaxed families and small businesses have had enough.
We've had enough of Democrats forcing taxpayers to pick up the tab for more wasteful spending instead of working together to make the tough fiscal decisions Americans are forced to make each and every day. We've had enough of seeing their hard-earned tax dollars wasted on pork-barrel spending that won't create jobs, rebuild their savings, or get our economy moving again. And we've had enough of Congress and the White House mortgaging our children and grandchildren's future by saddling them with mountains of debt destined to bankrupt our country.-

I think the 'Tea Parties' are good for people of all political persuasions.
It gives all Americans a chance to publicly vent about their govt and it is perfectly legal, so far.
However, since our current govt is so sensitive about internal criticism (....however, If you are European or Muslim then go for it, slam the US any way you want; even our own President slammed us when he was in Europe....), I'm afraid they may have the 'Tea Parties' put on the list of fanatical and subversive Right Wing groups and activities and try to have them banned for being perceived as a threat to the security of the United States.........
Wouldn't it be interesting, if not hilarious, if the 'Tea Party's' wound up on the 'same list' as the KKK, the Neo-Nazi groups, and al-Qaeda!!!!!!! -

As one observer pointed out, the original Boston tea party was against taxation without representation. These folks had their vote, they just lost. I think what these folks really should do is refuse to use any public infrastructure. Shut off your water, don't use any roads. Don't watch tv because that is regulated by the FCC. Don't fly because the FAA over sees air traffic control. If you want to protest government, you must insist they empty all prisons because you don't want your tax dollars being used for collective purposes. Let's put all the murderers, rapist, drug dealers, buglars, and arsonist out on the streets so you can keep more of what you earn.
