"The Web is buzzing with information about how to throw an anti-Obama Taxpayer Tea Party, something organizers hope will be held today from Santa Monica to South Carolina. But no need to burn up your bandwidth reading complicated instructions. Here's a simpler recipe:"

Hey I just had to submit this one.
Ya know where was all the outrage when Bush raped the country with his two wars while instituting tax cuts for the very wealthy ?

    FTA

The Tea Party movement, more than anything else, is a rather garish display of a Republican right that seems to have lost not only the national elections but also any semblance of political bearings. Staying on this course, the GOP risks -- in the words of one pundit -- becoming "the Talk Radio Republican Party."

Better put that kettle on, Marge. It's going to be a long and bizarre four years.

Hey what can one say. The party with no clue has boiled itself dry. LOL

    Progressive,

"Oh, wait--the country did that by electing Obama...."

The GOP hasn't accepted yet that they lost the last two elections and will soon have Al Franken to deal with too (not seat due to sore losers).

Hopefully, this unraveling of the GOP will translate in to losses in upcoming elections.

    Hmmm..
As a VERY dedicated tea-drinker, long-time frequenter of tea-houses, domestically currently stocking at least 30 different types of loose tea, I feel positively T-d off that the nattering nabobs are trespassing on such sacred ground.
Of course if they're drinking tea-bag tea good luck to them.
That's barely tea - most of the colour is dye of the worst kind.
To be honest I'd rather see them act like real revolutionaries and throw tea into the ocean - again as long as they stick with the tea bag sh**.. Whatever.. They'll get tired of it pretty soon.

"Where was all the outrage when Bush raped the country with his two wars while instituting tax cuts for the very wealthy?"

As we all know, there was none. Bush could do no wrong, in spite of the fact that he lied and he violated federal law and the constitution and he DOUBLED the national debt.

The more apt irony is that there are TAX CUTS in the 2009 stimulus bill.

It is beyond all understanding that there are any people out there that swallow whole the junk spewed from the right-wingers, especially when the truth is so easily accessible.

If it were a grass roots movement, we would not have seen Fox News broadcasting it every 10 minutes.

Next, we will have the "the Billionaire stroll on Washington" That should be fun to watch. Perhaps they will roll down their tinted windows and wave to the peons.

Writing in Fortune magazine, conservative policy analyst Bruce Bartlett, who has a long anti-tax history, says: "The irony of these protests is that federal revenues as a share of the gross domestic product will be lower this year than any year since 1950. ... The truth is that the U.S. is a relatively low-tax country no matter how you slice the data."

That's because he's not including the BILLION-DOLLAR-A-DAY costs of the endless war of terrorism.

Saddly most of you have apparently not really heard about these protests. Many involved are not republicans. Democrats, independents, fiscal conservatives, and others are involved. But I guess without any reporting of an event that may involve over 100,000 people would be too much for your news sources :/ The protest in my city last month had thousands and was essentially ignored. When about 500 protested Bush and the war, it made national news. I wonder if there could be some sort of bias... Nahhhhh.

My news sources say it differs from place to place. One place has a mix of parties, another place is plainly angry Republicans, another place is mostly Ron Paul people (who are essentially Republicans), another place is composed of the same people who protest ANY taxes, another place has a few Democrats and a lot of angry conservatives.

The numbers, though, are fairly small.

"When about 500 protested Bush and the war"

Funny. I seem to remember plenty of protests that scaled in the thousands if not tens of thousands. Plus they were protesting a WAR! Where good American soldiers got killed for Bush's folly. They weren't protesting about wanting to be able to be greedy, pig-hungry, money-focused Mammonites.

whether you like it or not, regardless of the motivation, and whether or not these "tea parties" are being instigated by the evil fox news network . these people have a right and an obligation to assemble and petition their government as they see fit.

The original tea party had to do with taxation without representation. Now exactly why are these tea parties protesting? The fiscal debt? Where were you during the Bush years? Stimulus package? Where were you on Bush's first stimulus program? Taxing the wealthy 3% more and giving tax cuts to the rest of our nation? Those are the policy issues so ... or is it just their dislike for our democratically elected multi-racial president?

So, you are saying it is a mix... Wouldn't that be a good way to write the story? Even, "Protests where 80% are Republican, 15% are Ron Paul or fiscal conservaites of various stripes, 5% are disenchanted Democrats"? Yeah, I just made up those numbers for an example...

I gave a specific example of 2 protests in the same city where one that was approximately 5-10 times larger was not covered. Unless you are suggesting that the news sources made the value judgement that the war was wrong so they felt a need to cover that protest, while they made the value judgement that the current protests are "wrong" and so failed to cover them? I guess I could go with that interpretation if you would like to use that...

I was just talking to my neighbor who was near our town square today and according to her she saw about half dozen people in the square protesting. She said two protesters was holding signs questioning Obama's birth place and another one was shouting 'Obama Is A Muslim' while holding a banner that had a X'd out picture of what she thought was Katie Couric on it of all things.

It doesn't sound like to me that these people were protesting TAXES as much as they were just protesting against President Obama in general. Some of the news reporting from CNN around the country seems to be pointing this out as well.

There will always be those that take the wrong message to the streets. So if you want to form your opinion based on those few folks and miss the real meaning of what the Tea Parties are really about, then go ahead and disillusion yourselves.

Across our nation, thousands of Americans are participating in taxpayer tea parties today for one simple reason: overtaxed families and small businesses have had enough.

We've had enough of Democrats forcing taxpayers to pick up the tab for more wasteful spending instead of working together to make the tough fiscal decisions Americans are forced to make each and every day. We've had enough of seeing their hard-earned tax dollars wasted on pork-barrel spending that won't create jobs, rebuild their savings, or get our economy moving again. And we've had enough of Congress and the White House mortgaging our children and grandchildren's future by saddling them with mountains of debt destined to bankrupt our country.

These tea parties are NOT Anti-Obama, who the hell is saying that other then the loony democrats?

The tea parties are in protest of higher taxes, out of control government spending and government taking away our constitutional rights. If the democrats had any smarts they too would joint these tea parties. But we all know most democrats simply and blindly follow what ever their government does and they ask no questions...that's going to come back and bite all of us!

We have a LOT to fix...

Let's do it responsibly as Citizens of the same Country and not as Enemies feasting on Her bones.

For the LA Times to claim insanity is laughable. California is imploding on itself with it's insane spending on entitlements and lax rules on immigration.

Most countries in the world would be thrilled to have California's economy and yet the state is hopelessly in debt. People are having to leave the state because the burden is so great.

The Tea parties are just the beginning of a movement to let people know that they are not alone when it comes to being upset over all of the spending being planned by our Government.
It is not right to burden our grandchildren with the enormous debts that Obama has in store for them.
This movement will snowball over the next few years and Obama will be a one hit wonder just like Jimmy Carter.
In 2010 we will have a Republican majority to cool the Messiah's heels and then the hammer comes down in 2012.
Just your left wing comments alone show that you are worried.
We have just begun to fight.

        Note the word "planned".

        Where have you BEEN?

Bush and the Republicans were spending like drunken sailors for EIGHT years! They DOUBLED the national debt!

You had nothing but support for all that spending.

But now you all-of--a-sudden, in 3 months time, have a problem with government spending?

        Pathetic ....

It is the smallest of movements that can turn into the biggest of problems for any politician.

I think the 'Tea Parties' are good for people of all political persuasions.
It gives all Americans a chance to publicly vent about their govt and it is perfectly legal, so far.

However, since our current govt is so sensitive about internal criticism (....however, If you are European or Muslim then go for it, slam the US any way you want; even our own President slammed us when he was in Europe....), I'm afraid they may have the 'Tea Parties' put on the list of fanatical and subversive Right Wing groups and activities and try to have them banned for being perceived as a threat to the security of the United States.........

Wouldn't it be interesting, if not hilarious, if the 'Tea Party's' wound up on the 'same list' as the KKK, the Neo-Nazi groups, and al-Qaeda!!!!!!!

It WAS "funny" that most in the crowds of tea-baggers seemed not to be in the upper income tax bracket.

The lady with the cheap sun glasses, the guy with the biker beard, that dude with the $10.00 t-shirt...

So they were NOT in the 1% of Americans getting a tax hike. They actually received a tax cut under Obama...

So they were protesting THEIR OWN TAX REDDUCTION????

Or were the angry about the CEOs of banks and rich Hollywood stars having to pay more???

            Huh???

These protesters should think through their arguements so they don't appear as stupid as they look...

And if you won't pay taxes for local roads then fill that pothole downtown RIGHT NOW! And don't use cheap crap, REAL ASPHALT.

And if the Fire Departmrent becomes privatized then what income cut-of point for the family that lives there will determine whether their house will saved?

As one observer pointed out, the original Boston tea party was against taxation without representation. These folks had their vote, they just lost. I think what these folks really should do is refuse to use any public infrastructure. Shut off your water, don't use any roads. Don't watch tv because that is regulated by the FCC. Don't fly because the FAA over sees air traffic control. If you want to protest government, you must insist they empty all prisons because you don't want your tax dollars being used for collective purposes. Let's put all the murderers, rapist, drug dealers, buglars, and arsonist out on the streets so you can keep more of what you earn.
