Don't be too sure. The original whistleblowers at NSA reported spying on Republicans by Dick Cheney. For example, Cheney seems to have been very afraid that Dick Armey would NOT support the war powers resolution for Iraq. Not surprising given that Armey has now told us that he would have rejected the Iraq war EXCEPT for the fact that Cheney lied to him and that he strongly regrets having supported that war.

FTA: "The agency believed that the congressman, whose identity could not be determined, was in contact — as part of a Congressional delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006 — with an extremist who had possible terrorist ties and was already under surveillance, the official said. The agency then sought to eavesdrop on the congressman’s conversations, the official said."

Sounds like a good idea to me. It's entirely possible the "congressman" was clueless about his/her contact's possible terrorist ties.
In any case, the wire-tapping did not take place. A sure sign that internal controls worked. -

On December 8, 2006, at the PES Congress in Portugal (photos), DNC Chairman Howard Dean presented the keynote address, which is posted on the official Democratic Party website. The European socialist parties are referred to as “progressive”; Democrats, Dean said, want to be “good citizens of the world community.” Dean spoke at a session on “Global Challenges for Progressive Politics.”
In his speech, Dean told “an audience of European Socialists”
It is time for the United States to renew our relationships around the world. It is time we treat our allies with respect and honesty. The Democratic Party is committed to consensus-building, bilateral and multilateral relationships built on mutual respect.
In response, Rasmussen told Dean
You are concerned with our common destiny. We are for the real America and we want to cooperate with you to change the world.

Wonderful Jovial. But you seem to have restricted Wiretapping and I'm going to say without Court Authorization, to events after 9/11.

Was that intentional?
You do know that Bush wanted wiretapping on all American Citizens right after he came into office, months before 9/11?
All the Phone companies except one went along with the plan to wiretap without court permission. That one was Quest. Got any idea why Bush wanted that done before 9/11?
I've got my own theories, I think Bush thought that the sanity of those who voted for him ought to be questioned and I have to agree with him since I was one of those.
I will never vote for a Republican Candidate again.
Let's hear it for Susan Boyle.
And I think he tried to tap Cheney cause Cheney had told he when he could and when he couldn't whatever.
