Posted By jovial 6 months, 3 weeks ago in News

The New Yorks Times Lichtblau and Risen (who broke the original story last year tipped off by DOJ whistleblower, Thomas Tamm ) revealed yesterday that the NSA attempted to improperly wiretap a member of Congress who was ' part of a Congressional delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006'

Pelosi or Murtha. That's my guess.

    Kucinich.

I'll bet he made some travels outside the US during that time.

    And he's just SO rowdy.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Obama or Waxman. But, maybe it's that famous international double agent...Lieberman!

If it was Pelosi or Obama, they need to just let it go and move on. After all, breaking the law is no big deal, & they have 'important' things to deal with.

Im going with Obama. The already talking with a "terrorist" makes me think of the Reverend.

FTA: "The agency believed that the congressman, whose identity could not be determined, was in contact — as part of a Congressional delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006 — with an extremist who had possible terrorist ties and was already under surveillance, the official said. The agency then sought to eavesdrop on the congressman’s conversations, the official said."

Sounds like a good idea to me. It's entirely possible the "congressman" was clueless about his/her contact's possible terrorist ties.

In any case, the wire-tapping did not take place. A sure sign that internal controls worked.

I believe it was Howard Dean or Barney Frank.

          Jovial - my source:

Group photo: Party of European Socialists with president Poul Nyrup Rasmussen (front left) and DNC chairman Howard Dean (center), Dec. 8, 2006, in Portugal (AP).

On December 8, 2006, at the PES Congress in Portugal (photos), DNC Chairman Howard Dean presented the keynote address, which is posted on the official Democratic Party website. The European socialist parties are referred to as “progressive”; Democrats, Dean said, want to be “good citizens of the world community.” Dean spoke at a session on “Global Challenges for Progressive Politics.”

In his speech, Dean told “an audience of European Socialists”

It is time for the United States to renew our relationships around the world. It is time we treat our allies with respect and honesty. The Democratic Party is committed to consensus-building, bilateral and multilateral relationships built on mutual respect.

          In response, Rasmussen told Dean

You are concerned with our common destiny. We are for the real America and we want to cooperate with you to change the world.

and Ali Waked wrote December 7, 2006

The Palestinian news agency Maan, quoting a senior member of the Palestinian government, reported Wednesday that “ministers of the Hamas-led government recently held talks with European countries and with a delegation of the American Democratic Party.

It would have to be Pelosi during her trip to Syria. I wonder if they tapped any of the republicans that went there with her?

Wonderful Jovial. But you seem to have restricted Wiretapping and I'm going to say without Court Authorization, to events after 9/11.

              Was that intentional?

You do know that Bush wanted wiretapping on all American Citizens right after he came into office, months before 9/11?

All the Phone companies except one went along with the plan to wiretap without court permission. That one was Quest. Got any idea why Bush wanted that done before 9/11?

I've got my own theories, I think Bush thought that the sanity of those who voted for him ought to be questioned and I have to agree with him since I was one of those.

I will never vote for a Republican Candidate again.

Let's hear it for Susan Boyle.

And I think he tried to tap Cheney cause Cheney had told he when he could and when he couldn't whatever.
