Never late, always pay a little more than minimum on my Discover card. I just got a notice my fixed rate is now variable, and 4 points higher. BS!

Unfortunately not everyone is in a position to maintain a zero balance. However, budget planning to pay off those CC's can be a future reward. No CC's here, just the debit card.

Wiki. You have good suggestions except for one problem. Those Credit Card companies have a license to steal. Works like this:
There is no criminal law that will stop a company from hiking you rates, neither is their any moral law that they abide with, and finally ethical behavior is a no-no at most of these companies, as a matter of fact, all I've ever dealt with.

It hasn't been that long ago that I could walk to the local bank, sign my name and pocket say $10,000 with a payback of 1 payment, one year from the loan date at a rate of 5-6%.

Nearly all the banks that used to operate like that have now been bought out by companies that want maximized profit models. I think that any Credit Card company wouldn't even garner a stare if they bumped rates to 30% because of the "Economy".

That type behavior is just as upsetting as mortgage meltdowns, in fact I'll bet causes a good percentage of them.

All a Credit card does is defer the timing of debt...plus it adds interest. That interest is one reason that there is an inflation such as the one that made a penny's worth so different.
          (ref: http://www.coinflation.com/coins/1909-1982-Lincoln...
Currently...copper is worth (Copper base metal price) $2.1630/lb up 0.0227 on April 17, 2009.
The weight of each penny from 1909-1982 listed as 3.11 grams
Troy weight...ends with copper worth a certain price, but do not stop...it had to be dug from the ground, processed, energy had to be used...pollution added to the atmosphere and our lungs, etc.
All for a penny...look what happens???
I am convinced...mankind is worth more than the credit a credit card itself can not get to give.

This is a outwit by the card companies to get them to spend more on their cards so they can be fleeced out of more and more interest. I would rather k??p my wampum safe than havecheap trinkets and bootless offers; stuff credit cards- its just profit??ring from those who can't give it, like th? Lottery.
