America's UN Boycott Backfires »
Posted By dissent 7 months, 1 week ago in NewsThe Obama administration and the United States as a whole will be
haunted for a long time by the decision to boycott a United Nations
international conference on racism and intolerance starting today in
Geneva.
For the review that runs all this week, many nations have worked for months in bare-knuckle negotiations to create a report erasing offensive provisions, a report that the United States--a hoped for shining star with its first African-American president--could live with.
Instead, the United States turned its back on a chance to do more to enhance its image across the developing world than any grand tour of Europe could ever accomplish. Washington ran away from a confrontation that many struggling human rights activists in the poorest and often most repressed countries would have welcomed.

"Had the United States sent a high-level delegation reflecting the richness and diversity of our country, it would have sent a powerful message to the world that we're ready to lead by example," the caucus said. "Instead, the administration opted to boycott the conference, a decision that does not advance the cause of combating racism and intolerance but rather sets the cause back."

What is the US afraid of? Its not some kind of tribunal. Not being there won't make any criticism go away. Is this the change Obama was talking about?-

Can it clown. The largest group of Israel bashers at this conference were Islamic racist regimes who practice gender apartheid with their own women and relegate non-Muslims to the status of second class citizens. If I am lying, correct me. Don't give your typical bull about Israel, zionism, the west- we all know that you hate everybody. Just take what I said and prove me wrong. Do the Muslim nations that are attending this conference and blasting Israel for being racist, practice gender apartheid with their women, and practice racism with their non-Muslim citizens. Just answer that question. Don't spin Doctor it, just answer the question.

US government would have no problem going to the conference since its first African American president would be there to show to the world that America has changed to a point to elect an African merican as a president but...this had to be sacrificed for the sake of Israel and supporting its genocidal policies. While many average man and woman on the street from whites to non whites voted for Obama, they really don't have clue about what a liability Israel has become to America.

US can not go to a conference aimed at addressing the issue of racism while it is supporting one of the most openly racist apartheid and its genocidal policy. Once again US interest is being sacrificed for Israel. It is American people who pay taxes and their government should represent them and yet agian it is representing Israelis who don't pay taxes to US government, they only collect taxes from US government few times a year. TAXATION with REPRESENTATION ha? what a farce...-

What bull!!!!!! Sacrificing Israel had nothing to do with it. It had everything to do with the fact that our black president who belongs to a group that was treated with racism understood that most of the Muslim countries which made up a large percentage of the conference members were racists themselves. They practice gender apartheid with their women and relegate non Muslims to the status of second class citizens. Saudi Arabia won't even let non Muslims into Mecca. So, instead of being a hypocrite, Obama did what any decent president would have done- he boycotted what he knew was going to be free for all against Israel by regimes who were racists themselves. Whatever mental illness dwells in that Iranian clown president is evident even to the people whose IQ doesn't equal the indoor temperature of the conference room. Plain and simple Obama recognized that it was just another forum for Iran to spew it's hatred which is exactly what the conference was suppose to oppose.

Please tell us exactly how Israel has too much influence. Don't give us opinion, innuendo, bull or anything. Fact please. Exactly how much influence does Israel have and who is influenced and how? I know several US senators who will disagree with you.
