Posted By Amabaie 6 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsPeople for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) wants a ban on horse-drawn carriages for tourists in urban settings. They claim the horses are not well-treated. The owners claim they are superbly treated. What do you think? Please comment.

I disagree. I Central Park New York City, the practice has been going on since Horse-and-buggy days. If the horses are treated right, that is the only concern. It is not a reason to ban them. It is the duty to put laws which make sure the horses are treated humanly and enforcing these laws.

That said, a lot of horses are mistreated in these situations. Not to mention that running on concrete for horses is awful no matter what you do.

Don't get me wrong. PETA's more annoying than helpful, but they do have some valid concerns. -

I doubt that many if any of these horses are abused. If anything, many are probably pampered.

They wear shoes to prevent hoof injury and there are regulations for the treatment and working of horses. Here in CA, it's illegal to work horses if the temp is above a certain point. 90 degrees I think.

No offense to animals, I love them but PETA needs to get a grip. This is the group that gets models to pose naked instead of fur. If they can supply some nude models to pull me around central park I will happily give the horses the day off.
