Betara Turun Kabeh Procession, Thousands of Hindus gather at Besakih »
Posted By balinews 8 months, 1 week ago in NewsBesakih – Thousands of Hindus from all around the world packed Besakih Temple located in the slopes of Mount Agung in Karangasem regency. The Hindus were celebrating the Karya Agung Panca Bali Krama (PBK) followed by “Betara Turun Kabeh”.
The people who wanted to pray had to wait patiently because there were many Hindus crowded in the area. Some of them even passed out in the middle of the stairway that lead to the main temple due to exhaustion in the middle of the queue.
The victims were carried to the health station established by the committee of Karya Agung Panca Bali Krama (PBK) along with Karangasem Health Department. The queue of vehicles leading up to Besakih was also very long, stretching up to 3 kilometers in length.
Most of the Hindus came to the temple carrying offerings called “bebantenan” consisting of fruits, cakes, and flowers, decorated with coconut leaves. Spiritual Hindu leaders called “pemangku” led the ceremony inside the temple.
Wayan Gunartha, the head of Karya Agung Panca Bali Krama (PBK) committee, said that thousands of Hindus came to the temple to pray every day. The ceremony itself lasted for approximately one month. “Even though the ceremony lasted for a long period of time, there were still thousands of Hindus who came to Besakih everyday,” added Gunartha. The Hindus not only came from Indonesia but also from other countries throughout the world such as Holland, Belgium, France, USA, Japan, Australia, and India.
