Obama has also sacrificed just about any credibility that he had internationally. So far his actions on the economy, foreign policy and rule of law do not match his pretty words. That seems to be because he is owned by the same corrupt oligarchs that used Bush as their puppet for awhile.

jovial, I applaud you for trying to talk to lockstep12. You have much more patience than I do for the double aught crowd (Order of Obstruction).

I do agree that Obama has misstepped in giving immunity to CIA operatives who tortured. This case is far from over and if Obama is serious about regaining international stature for America, he may have to not only backtrack on his current position, but actively pursue a course of action against the U.S. hierarchy that was involved in torture practices. -

I coulsd care less what the idiots at the UN think. They can't even figure out how to feed the poor in the world without mucking it up. Bottom line.
America makes her own decisions !!!!
Now we should prosecute the idiots who said the torture was legal. We should also prosecute those who knew the law better and knew that torture was illegal. The ones who ordered it done.
When I se the UN stepping in and stopping the Darfur catastrophe, and begin to make a difference in the underdeveloped nations without pointing at Americans and saying we want you to pay for most of it. Maybe I'll begin to listen.
But until then they get both of my middle fingers saluting them !!!!-

If one relative of mine gets killed because of the morons now running the US gov. I will sue the GOV, Obama, Pelosi, Reed and every other lefty dweeb who happens to be walking by the courthouse. You people need to grow up, this isn't planet Disneyland, it's planet Hell. One can only hope that Obama has the guts to release all the files, so everyone can see exactly what was stopped by using these type of interogations. This Guy is already one term and the dems will be out of the house in 2010, but alot can happen by then.

whale, why didn't you sue Dumya for lies that got over 4,000 fine young Americans killed and over 40,000 maimed while 1.2 million Iraqis died in the process - all so Dumya could say he had one up on his dad! Is there any consistency in you unscruppled, valueless right wingers?

Remember the CIA of the 80's? I want those guys back! If our nation had an enemy, the CIA took them out. I'm kind of tired of hearing about how bad we treat these terrorist scum. Forget about 9-11? What about those people? What about their families, and the rights of all those that have died in this so called war on terror? This nation has got to stop being so weak willed. We need to fight our enemies as they would fight us. If they fight with honor then we fight them with honor. If they don't, then we need to tear them apart. If the tables were turned, those same "helpless" prisoners would murder our families. I've been in Iraq, and didn't like the fact that we had to fight our enemies with an arm tied behind our backs. I've noticed that all of these "terrorist's rights" people come from the same mold...One that lacks the concept of reality, and the belief that war should be fought without collateral damage. From every American realist that I've talked to says we need to hang those scumbags, and allow our troops to go over there and do what needs to be done. Want a short war? Then lets quit talking tough and start making examples of the nations that harbor these inhumane fanatics.

My understanding is that he was giving immunity to low-level operatives but left the door open to prosecution of those who put together the policy. A bad decision, IMHO, particularly at this early stage of the game, but Barack is a consummate politician and may have read it that protecting the small fry might provide more opportunity to go after the bigger criminals, those who created policies/laws that flew in the face of U.S. and international law. Yes, in some ways I have been disappointed, but I also see that Barack has made some steps forward. Politics, it has been said, is the art of the possible, and I would like to have as much accountability at the highest level possible. (It would have been smarter, IMHO, for Pres. Obama to just sit back and watch for a while, but I'm not in Washington and don't know what the reality is there. I will push for what I want and await results before judging.)

The next step is to push Eric Holder to appoint a special prosecutor. -

Forgot to mention the UN in my post above. The UN, what a joke. These guys knock our nation every chance they get, but are quick to ask for aid when they need help. We need to realize that the UN is a thorn in the side of justice, freedom, liberty, etc...Enough said.

In this point, I disagree with President Obama. A crime stays a crime, no matter if is was committed because of a governmental order or for individual reasons. The need to look forward is understandable, but only after having cleaned up with the past!

Can anyone tell me why the Bush administration (who I did NOT vote for) will be involved in a torture investigation, where no one was killed, yet it doesn't matter that Obama okayed the recent missel strikes in Pakastan that killed some innocents? I don't get the apparant double standards or continued political posturing. This is what is so disgusting about Washington...and I'm referring to both parties.

no one died? over 100 prisoners in u.s. custody in iraq and afghanistan are known to have disappeared. they are very likely dead.

the local commanders, and ultimately obama, are guilty of murder when our missiles kill civilians in pakistan. the book by vincent bugliosi, the prosecution of george w bush for murder, will give you all the details you could need about the iraq war.
clinton killed unknown hundreds in yugoslavia. congress voted over and over again to continue the iraq war. both parties are equally and disgustingly guilty. -

Nes, you sure didn't read the article on Propellor last week about the 109 detainess who died in Bush's custody?
Reply
The way the torture memos were written, if you don't die than no torture, so it was inecessay to bring them near death! Well, the dead, especially in foriegn prisons for Dumya sure can't sue now can they? Dumya even vetoed a Defense spending bill that would have allowed our soldiers to sue for Sadam torture done to them!
How about Dumya's DoJ refusing to consider any of he cases of their wrongfull rendition asn torture of foreignors - what you would expect from a politically corrupted justice department that let all those contractor women be raped in the Green Zone too, and did nothing! And, let Dumya out a CIA agent too!

It's a sad day when the US President gives out secret info on our own CIA - all for political BS and posturing. What a raving idiot we have in office. The Obamanation is eloquently ignorant has not clue what responsibility a president has to the country. Its becoming clear that he's painted himself into a corner.

Obama has committed the federal crime of Treason against the USA by what he has done with CIA info, and his lemmings are proud of it too. -

...only a repug led Congress has attempted impeachment... twice in our history. Only Repugs would so willingly try to destroy the office of the presidency! Only repugs will use the full extremes of anything to accomplish their corrupt, un-American ways!
