I agree with the fat tax. I find I often have to spend extra money for luggage when the obese person next to me pays nothing, and they weigh more than me and my luggage put together. There is a consequence for everything in life, and obesity is no exception

kind of makes me laugh. i had a flight from Manchester NH to Tucson AZ. I was late thru security and got onto a very full plane. I was th emiddle seat between two guys that made me look small.

if they want to charge for two tickets, then let them charge for two tickets.

who are we to tell airlines how to run their business? are we going to regulate morality, now?
how about, instead, the government steps in and mandates diets for the obese?
what's the difference? -

why not a price reduction/refund for us tall people that have to wedge ourselves into the seat and are frozen in place because the seat pitch is too short?
Reply
nobody in front of me can put their seat back. i've got them locked in a full upright position. why not a discount for them too?
i swear. the inmates are incharge of the asylum...-

I hear you there, beavith. If obese people or disabled people are entitled to 2 seats because of their condition. As a man of 6'3" myself, I think we should be entitled to extra leg room at no additional charge because of our height. I usually try to get the emergency exit row, but it's never guaranteed.

I don't think the fat-tax is the way to go, though a per-kilo charge, including passenger, and all their luggage (checked and unchecked) would make sense and be completely non-discriminatory. Having different rules for men vs. women, IMO is completely unacceptable. That is by definition, a penalty because the person is "overweight", rather than a charge for the additional costs (both fuel and passenger discomfort) their weight will incur.

As far as their other 'ideas'. If they charged for use of the onboard toilets, I think people would end up peeing in the cabin. In an enclosed space, if you haven't brought cash, what is your alternative? -

Totally insane this is discriminatory, why don't they add seats for overweight people? I'm tired of listening the "poor" companies complaining about everything, they keep suffering from all the problems we cause them (sob sob)and the only solution they find after thinking and thinking is to charge more money to the people. We have ALWAYS paid for everything they haven't EVER given us anything for free so the toilet service and paper, the meals and even the oxygen has always been included in the tickets price, this is only the growing voracity of the companies to make more money. We need to stop this madness. Helloooo? We the human beings are more important than corporations

As a former citizen, and now consumer, you do have choices.

There will ALWAYS be a "bottom line" and the consumer has to toe it. Anything over the norm is a penalty.

It depends on your outlook here. If you are a humanitarian you will not charge extra because the person is taking up two seats because of their size. If, however, you are a businessman you are selling seats on the airplane in order to run your business. If you are taking up 2 seats, you pay for two seats. Of course you must realize that your humanitarianism could cost you your business!
