The Jay Bybee Problem »
Posted By jovial 6 months, 2 weeks ago in Political NewsHow did Jay Bybee breeze through an unusually easy confirmation hearing for his appointment to the Federal Appeals Court in February
2003? Not a single Democrat questioned Bybee at the session and the brief proceedings soon became a love-fest between Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah and Jay Bybee. "I've seen a lot of people around here and I don't know of anybody who has any more ability than you have" states Sen. Hatch in a typical exchange featured in this report.

"Just six months prior to the hearing Jay Bybee had signed legal memos providing cover for CIA agents torturing detainees -- yet Congress voted him to a lifetime on the Federal bench. How did this happen? And what will become of Judge Bybee now?" -

How did this guy get the appointment without reasonable questioning? It is baffling.

It is as if our government was mesmerized - lulled into a state of paralysis by fear, anger, false nationalistic unity, and the notion that our leaders had to support an attack on Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction, which came from bogus intelligence. What had our nation actually become?
The country stood by silently as we invaded a sovereign nation to protect ourselves from a potential nuclear attack. ABSURD!
The silence in the halls of the senate when Orin Hatch praised Bybee and condemned the few voices of those that wanted the process of his confirmation to be slowed down to investigate his background more thoroughly investigated clearly depicted the repression and the opportunistic manipulation of a time when to challenge the government was considered "unpatriotic".
Was it patriotism? We now know it was nothing to do with the true concern for the welfare of the American people. It was a secret take over of the government, the legislature, and the courts.
This man needs to stand before a tribunal once and for all. Washington must identify these lose guns and remove them from office without pardoning crimes against humanity. -

Of course, these any party that is for war...for destroying the economy, the ecosystem, democracy, and for destroying a free America would have no problem justifying illegal torture. It takes high standards to be a part of the Order of Obstructionists.
However, I think the excuses the democratic party uses, for justifying the swift appointment of Bybee, are lame and show an inherent incompetence in understanding the future impacts of both appointments they are responsible for and the laws which they pass without full comprehension. Stealth indeed.
