(Hartford, Conn.) A decade-long battle for marriage equality in Connecticut ended late Wednesday when the General Assembly voted to update the state's marriage laws to conform with a landmark court ruling allowing gay and lesbian couples to tie the knot.

    The people of Connecticut have marriage equality because their court system protected the rights of the minority. Regardless of whether the legislature passed this bill or not, the Supreme Court made its point clearly when it said that fairness and equality were not being granted to all in Connecticut. With this new law, marriage equality is alive and well.

      This is a very good deal and a triumph for equality. I'm proud to say that I now stand with the people of Connecticut in their support of the rights of ALL people.
