So um, show how, as you like to call them, the liberal progressives in washington are being "oppressive" or disregarding human rights. Laws are still having to be voted. Obama doesnt have absolute power, nor will he during his stay at the white house. Just because the government isnt acting like you would want them to act doesnt even come close to defining a tyranny. Lets call it what is really need to be called. Sour grapes. Your side lost and thing are not going how you want them to go. Wah. Get use to it.

Socialism is when you forcibly take money from somebody else and give it away for (presumably) altruistic programs. Some "happier" examples are roads and fire-fighters. Some more controversial examples are the dmv, the post office, and welfare.
Reply
Indeed, we already live in a quasi-socialistic country. So I'm not sure why this author believes socialism is some arbitrary and distant figment of people's imaginations?
On that note, this administration is pushing for socialized health-care and has passed a "stimulus package" which takes money from the people, and uses it on specific programs. So under the guise of liberalism, we have adopted plenty of socialized programs. Not the other way around.
Fascism is just socialism with stockholders. Fascism is the cozy relationship between corporations and government. We need to only look as far as the nationalization of Bear Stearns, AIG, or CitiBank to see. Rahm Emanual's remarks that we don't necessarily have to do full nationalization of the banks in order to "fix" this problem, doesn't negate the fact that it is fascism. When Bush gave telco immunity to prevent people from suing them, that was fascist. When Cheney gave no-bid contracts his Halliburton, that was fascist. Geithner and Bernanke are propping up failed banks, auto companies, and real estate prices, on the banks of our grandchildren. If you add up all the trillions of dollars, and use that as a guage, then the level of fascism we are seeing today is far and beyond anything that we have ever done. Sorry, if the f-word offends you. But, it's fascism.
Socialism and Fascism are closely interrelated. It should be no surprise that folks can't seem to decide. They both come from the fallacy that government has a greater good than the individual. -

It makes me smile,to hear the American right using the S word as an insult.I'm from the UK and our Labor party, you know the party of smiley Blair and grumpy Browne, has writen in it's constitution,(first words actually)."We are a democratic socialist party".The word "socialist"is worn as a "badge of honor"by most European parties of the center and left. The trouble with Tony Blair and to a lesser extent Gorden Brown,is that they have dragged the party so to the right, that many supporters and even MP's have left the party.or are threatening to.Actually European socialism, isn't really socialism,it believes in a mixed economy, where there's room for both public and private sectors. It is in truth "social democracy".Who can really say the Sweden is a bad nation and they are the real face of social-democracy.The right have only been in power there for a dozen years, out of the last 70.yearsThere everyone has moderate plenty.Like us in the UK there's socialized medicine, but no threat of a Stalinist tyranny. As for president Obama,he is just a jot left of center. Why is there such outrage at words like altruism, egalitarianism,or even fairness.Give the guy a chance at least

Because they are as anti-American or anti-freedom as you can get. They stifle growth and invention while growing contempt for those who achieve greatness on their own. They increase the populations need for others resources to live. They encourage laws and regulations to limit others abilities to compete and succeed against politically connected people and business.
In short; they are un-natural attempts to change Natures Laws. -

i agree with mikunited when he says there's a difference between socialism and Stalinist-like tyranny. That is an important distinction to make.
Reply
We tend to equate anything that is fascist and socialist to the totalitarian methods that was used in nazi germany or by mousilini and stalin. So, naturally, it sounds "weird" when people cite obama as a fascist or socialist, but that's because we don't fully understand the words..
Mikunited has demonstrated that it isn't a weird statement at all because knows exactly what it means. If there is any confusion, take it from a self-proclaimed socialist. -

We in America have something called the United States Constitution. EVERY public official must take a sworn oath to uphold this most precious document. The Constitution does not allow for Socialism, "lite" or "Heavy Duty", because our Constitution is about INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS and PRIVATE PROPERTY. This is why American citizens become upset (except the ignorant "GIMMES") when one of our politicians hatch a scheme to take from the "rich" and give to the "poor", no matter how well intended. This "coerced charity" is not very popular to those who must pay for these programs --- THE TAXPAYERS. And this is why, when you state, "Give the guy (Obama) a chance at least." We say, "NO WAY, because he is Our Chief Executive and we will do all we can to ensure he never "gets the chance" to make us over into a Socialist nightmare. So he MUST honor his oath to the American Constitution and set the example for the other politicians, as Socialism would be a VIOLATION of America's Highest Law, THE CONSTITUTION. I hope this has enlightened you as to our quaint "colonial" ways. Ta Ta!

The fun way that Obama-maniacs splice contrary adjectives
Reply
together,
- comes from their inability to express why they are obsessed with him, dream about him, scream about him.
Obama is a facsist socialist communist marxist muslim terrorist-lover who hates the flag of the country he leads but wasn't even born in?
Well, why not.
It is not about making sense, anyway.
it is about expressing hate.-

Stop getting all of your (obviously lacking) education from YouTube, and try learning the actual meanings of the words you're so busy mimicking from the wingnuts...
Reply
The President was born in Hawaii (no, that's not up for debate, it's been proven -- end of discussion). Get over it.
And no, he's none of those things you clearly don't understand. (You're clearly the hater, here...)
Why don't you try switching your AFDB to be shiny side out. That way it reflects, rather than amplifies the mind control lasers....

Ok, I will give it a try:

"it is about expressing hate." becomes "I am about expressing hate. "
Hmm.
I'm not sure, Cham.
While I do hate,
if I was about hate
I would be focused on McCain, Bush, Cheney, and the usual gang of suspects.
I would use lots of profanity and be calling lots of names,
etc. You know the pattern.
But I have spent the last year and a half,
mostly talking about what I love; or at least what I like.
I have talked about our Prez in rather glowing terms.
While I don't credit his victory entirely to my eloquence I am darned
sure I would like to.
The point of my comment was that those who hate Obama,
can not express clearly why they hate him;
so they string every word of hate together that they can.
I call them Obama-maniacs, because they are far more
obssessed than are his supporters.
It would be a dreary thing to be about hate;
creepy, and souless; pointless and sad.
I will strive to avoid it.
You do the same.

and apparently, none of its working. probably has a lot to do with the former administration being much closer to the definition of fascist (Unitary Executive Theory? anyone?) than the Obama Admin ever could be.
Obama still has a high approval rating and we're still solidly behind his ideas. -

Okay!
I wrote an ambiguous comment!
I called the people who hate Obama,
Obama-maniacs, since they are far more obsessed than his supporters.
My point was that the strung-together hate words of 'socialist marxist facsist' are a sign of incoherent, inarticulate feelings that make no sense; only noise.
Unfortunately, that seems to also be a description of my
comment.
Critics.
Sheesh. -

What if all this name calling is because we see our Government leaning towards a form of Police State and we have fallen upon notorious example because we see the danger?
Reply
The words are offensive...granted.
Using a word does not make the act it was used to define any less heinous.
It's History and some for whatever reason or another use strong associative words trying to define a large associative area of political ideas.
They should be able to back it up and it's legitimate if they know what in the hell they are talking about.
I agree they have become the worst sort of buzzword these days.
Nonetheless, those Parties do still exist and have large followings.
When I hear that the Government is recording and sifting through private communication I am appalled.
That's the action of a Police State.
Call any Party you want any name you want...there are crimes by the Government occurring right now by ALL the Parties and we are to busy name-calling to get anything done about it. -

Want to take issue with a buzz point brought up further up the line. The writers who say that altruism and cooperation are unnatural don't seem to know about some of the things discovered about Homosapiens in the last 30 years.
Reply
There have been several fossils of individuals discovered who were incapacitated by some injury so that they would have been unable to hunt or gather, but who survived for years or decades after the injury. The tribes they belonged to took care of them. That is to say they took from those who could hunt and gave to those that couldn't.
Competition and cooperation are both part of the human genome. There is nothing bad about taking the best of both. -

My Fellow Americans: It is time we stop all this bickering about our dear beloved President. He and his close knit band of merry leaders just want the very best for His country. Yes, we should teach Communism to our children in school. They should learn all about sex education and how pathetic our country is and has been in the past. How evil our leaders of the past have been and all the wonders of our present new leadership. He knows what vehicles we should drive and they are those little jobs that is very difficult for the average size person to get into and not the ones Americans want and are safest in like the pick up truck or the SUV. He should be able to drive in a huge limo, along with his staff. He is the one after all. Everyone should enjoy paying more taxes, well, everyone that pays them now. They should love to support the ones that never got off their duff and did a darn thing since they were freed or allowed to invade this country. We tax payers should welcome this task along with all the terrorist that have come across our borders from Canada. Helping him is our lovable buddy "No Body Messes with Joe", which just because he is a screw-up, is just there to make sure our attention is diverted from the real damage our sweetheart president might have accidentally incurred. Give him a break in four years you won't recognize this country that has set a bad example for all other countries as he has told the World and continues to preach about what a terrible place to live. We should be ashame of all those bad habits we have had where, working hard is just counter productive to a truly poverty stricken society, we could be living in like his new buddies in Cuba. We want a perfectly run restricting country like Iran, North Korea, or Chavez land. America is setting a bad example to the world, being the most productive, the freest, the richest, the most feared, the most helpful in World crisis, the place everyone in the world wants to live or the most humane with our methods of getting information. We need to change that and President is going to see to it that we fall in line with all the other oppressive countries in the World. Except we will be the only ones involved in keeping the World Green because we have the dough to force people to pay for this terrible Global threat, (Man it is Cold today), never the less it is still happening. God has no control over that situation. Oh! I forgot I can't say God or even believe in him. Yes, Give the Dictator, AAAAAAhhhh leader a chance. The Real American

The only thing that can be said about this post is that you are a flaming idiot. There is no logical reason to think otherwise. It's merely a rant about mostly unconnected events tied together by inserting buzz words for emotional content. If you are as truly afraid of Obama as you claim to be there are probably better ways to get that point across than writing something a third grader wouldn't turn in as a paper.

Ican't wait.Iknow the feeling, in one election,we could lose a country we love, and protected for close to three hundred years We seem bound, and determined to destroy private property rights, the federal government now controls our finances, and soon to control our health care, and then the tempture of our homes. They are going re-educate our children, freedom of expression will quickly be replaced with socialist talking points.Obama's security ( brown shirts)forces will make sure the parants not only read them, but teach them.I can't believe that one election could do this much damage. Not only did we let children vote, but we let parants who are under the thumb of the children vote.I don't have any hopes for my grand children,I don't believe their parants really care. The beggars, and the losers are now in charge,For the whats left of us,Lock, and load.
